Hoping it means you made a better shot than what you seen. I didn't see the shot, but what you described doesn't sound like gut and the blood you found may be back lung maybe hit offside rib stopping the arrow.

You never did answer on the bucks reaction after the shot. How far did he run, did he stop and how long, was his tail up, down or twitching. If he did stop, did he walk off or sprint off.

Good luck on finding your buck on this afternoon! It sounds like the shot might be better than you think. Did the arrow fall out or did it break off with broadhead inside him? If it broke off, that hypodermic is going to be tearing stuff up the more he moves.

Sounds like my buck.. ran 70 yards with his tail up, stopped looked back toward me put his head down started grazing and flicked his tail and walked into the woods.. 30 yards later he was dead. And I smoked him, double lung.. I think you'll find him

Sounds very similar to what I had yesterday. Luckily I had the fortune of a pass through which told me liver off the bat. 8" back of aim point, sounds about like the liver, maybe diaphragm.

He was also in a ground blind so I'm sure visibility wasn't as good as yours, hoping he was bleeding like yours

    Hopefully he finds it

Shot my first deer ever yesterday. Twenty yards quartering away. I was unsure of shot placement, thought I was farther back of where I wanted to be; so I backed out and waited 3 hours before picking back up the trail with my friend and hunting mentor who is a veteran hunter. My anxiety was through the roof as we picked up the trial only to find the doe I had shot, dead 60 yds from where I made the shot! I did hit her a little far back but I hit her heart and lungs as the arrow traveled through her body! Feeling so thankful and blessed on the clean recovery of this animal! I now have such a greater understanding and respect for the animals we hunt, the skill it takes to be a bow hunter, and for the meat we eat! Can't wait for my next opportunity! Thanks for all the great knowledge that all of you share on this site! image.jpg

Sorry dont know how to flip the picture right side up.

Congrats, not many(myself included) have the discipline to back out on their first deer.
