got all my stands pulled and pulled my remaining trail cams. my number 1 showed up at one location. if he makes it through this gun season he will be in trouble. I also got pics of him at a new location. I am starting to figure out his home range. i'll take him with a gun if I have to. deer usually don't get that big in PA so I will not hesitate. keep at it guys I'm rooting for you!! I did see a ton of monster bucks at the sunday deer church in town with all their does.
Thanks everyone, last day of my rutcation and next available time out is gun season on Friday. Was only going to sit until 1 anyway and had already decided button buck to monster buck, if something presented a shot it was going in the freezer. I was literally typing a post ssting that I think I chose the wrong stand, 2 bucks killed in 5 days may have been too much activity in the area and was waiting a tad longer to switch stands. As I was typing I heard a couple squirrels go ape sh*t in the leaves, I turned to make sure it was squirrels and nothing was there. As I turned back around I heard the rustling again amd caught movement. It was a lone buck coming down a steep ridge, losing footing as he slipped down. I thought he was going to stay on that side and head towards the pond. Instead he went down to the creek crossing and started heading away. Had one shot opportunity at 35yds but my breathing fogged the scope lens up, could see the tips of antler nothing more. As o was going to wipe the fog he started to move again so I hrabbed the grunt tube instead and just did one longish grunt. He stopped again at 50. I wiped the scope lens and got him in the picture and squeezed. Heard the impact and then seen the lighted nock still in him as he bolted. Had about 4" sticking out. Silence and then a crash(rolling down the creek bank). Thought he was down and started posting, then heard more thrashing and coughing amd caught a glimpse of white. Seen him go down, get back up and then down for good. Took me 45 minutes to drag him 50yds, he was heavy and had a creek and two big banks to drag him up. Broadhead must have bounced off his offside shoulder. It barely punctured the hide at exit, I just slit it and got the broadhead out. Think I'm going to sit out first firearm season and not interfere with the other guys. Still have 2 tags for archery left, and 2 for firearm. No intentions of filling them all but might get one more for me and shoot one for my brother or something. Really want a snow sit Here was the entry, already posted the exit. Tried to use a come along to get him upright for field dressing, didn't work too well Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G900A using Tapatalk
Rooting for you cmtrav. I just got set at 1. Cruising bucks, love sick bucks, chasing bucks, LGBT bucks, where art though?
Accidentally dropped my boonie to the forest floor. I think that is my boonies way of telling me I have go do this on my own.
I had my boonie with me, took it off when I got to stand to cool down and never put it back on. Opted for a beanie to keep warm. It's still there and that's all that counts
