Although did anyone hear mark kenyons wired2hunt podcast on tracking? I thought the guest said push deer that were bone hit?
Muscle hits they say to push them so they don't clot up as fast and bleed out. Very double edged sword. Seen what happened with Twitch this past weekend, that deer bled forever and not just drips the entire way. Me, I would only push the deer in 3 scenarios. I can actually see him staying ahead of me and tiring, there is fresh snow on the ground or I have a good tracking dog. Without good footage to review memory can be just as bad as the shot itself. Happens quick and we often see what we want and not actually what happened, not saying that is the case but why one should always wait on tracking anything not down within sight. Even then give it 15 minutes to make sure it doesn't get back up.
Well back in the stand for the afternoon. Deer movement this week has been hit or miss on our farm. Hopefully tonight I can get back on track. Beautiful afternoon here in SE Indiana a little warm but still a great day none the less.
I hear ya. I shouldnt have wasted my vacation. Slow for nov 10. Think ill take my vacation starting third week in october.
Everyone not named Holt, keep your game face on. I saw my biggest buck in 70° weather, hanging with a bunch of does. It can happen at anytime.
Easily the worst year in 5 years for me. Granted I haven't hunted nearly as much, but the trail cameras, observations, etc., show very slow daytime movement. The deer aren't bedding or feeding where they've been in years past (even with a bumper crop of acorns). I know my dad is trafficking the place up more this year, and I have trespasser issues, but man, I'm ready to throw in the towel.
It's just crazy. I am not even seeing the normal young deer movement I normally do. My cams show alot of nocturnal movement. I am actually glad gun season starts on Saturday so all the extra hunters in the woods might push some deer around and make them move.
