45 degrees, sunny, breezy but good wind, had bucks chasing does on the camera before light this morning. I'm in the stand until dark

So, I overslept this morning by an hour. Took a quick shower, grabbed a bit to eat and made it to stand with 20 minutes to spare before shooting light.

On the drive there, as I exited the highway, I was driving along when something started across the road ahead. Too long and skinny to be a raccoon, thought it was a possum. As I neared it looked like a large ferrit. Not sure how bick mink can get, but this was about a foot and a half long. It just kept coming and I swerved to go around it. Unfortunately it either switched directions or stopped and well it didn't make it. If there'd have been water near I'd have said river otter even though they are a bit rare. The rest of the drive there kept thinking that was thw first roadkill I have had in nearly 20 years. Was an odd feeling.

As I got closer to the property I hunt, I seen a deer standing at the end of a cut cornfield just off the road. Was a big bodied buck, but I couldn't make the rack out as he turned to run back across the field.

On stand, started off a bit slow and then had two coyotes coming down the path. Started to shift in preparation for a shot when I noticed the coyotes were actually my uncles dogs, they followed my scent all the way down to my area. Never made it to the tree base, and it was a bit amusing at how confused they were. Circling around trying to pick the trail up, nose to the air, but not once did they look into the tree

No harm, no foul they run these woods 365 pretty much. Was my own fault as I had told my aunt I probably wouldn't hunt until Halloween weekend, that was before I moved my vacation up so they weren't penned up.

Wind was horrible amd didn't see anything but squirrels. To make matter worse I didn't even hang a stand or get the decoy down there.

I did find a decent tree to hang a stand. Will be quick and painless and I have busted 2 big bucks with does bedded down near by the last 2 years. Might pay off.

    I'll be back there Friday.

I rather enjoyed it this morning even though I didn't see a thing. Watching all those leaves coming down, knowing that soon I will be able to see hints of antler flashing through the limbs.

It's not going to be as open as I'm normally used to with moving my vacation ahead, but it felt good to get back in a stand on property I know.

Eh, where we live you should be used to the wind. It has started to die down a little here, still getting a few gusts...

Yea it's almost getting to the time of year where you regret not goin out. We got rain all day yesterday so they may be up and moving today.

If they do they are out of luck lol. I actually really like this spot. It's a little pinch point.
