Since I didn't get to join in yesterday, ears are a little cold but I'm rocking the boonie hat anyways.
Slept in this morning. Will try to convince the powers that be, I need to be in the stand this evening. We shall see what she says lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Hopefully you found him, looks like a dead deer by that arrow but these stories don't alwayd go well. Tucked tail, dark blood and started walking after a death run. I'd say he was probably quartering to more than you realized. Liver, guts and hit the opposite rear leg. Dead deer either way, but could be a long and tedious track. Even if you bump him this morning, he should be in bad enough shape for a follow up shot.
4 does and my 8 point came through being chased by dogs. People should keep their dogs at home or not mind them not coming back home. I didn't, but I could have.
Well it's not going good. From the spot I found my arrow, I lost blood after 100 yds into the next cut bean field. It was only a drop or two about every 10ft.
Dang I forgot to update this thread! Hung a new set yesterday and instantly knee it was gonna be deadly. Paired up with this mornings perfect weather it was a matter of time. Had a doe and 2 spikes come in picture perfect. Dropped her in her tracks 20 yds. Hour later 7 does come in from behind me and converge in front of me. Couldn't decide which one to shoot so I picked the closest and shot her at 10 yds. She ran off. Shot looked good. No pass through. Good blood. Gonna give it another 30 min or so before I go after her.
From the looks of that arrow, I would think that deer is laying dead somewhere. Mark where you last had blood, and keep searching for more, head toward the nearest cover, all else fails, gets some buddies and start grid searching...
That deer's dead somewhere. Liver hit is the first thing I thought when I saw your arrow pic. I'd start grid searching or find a tracking dog if your laws allow. Good luck!
No service last night in the stand and no deer for me. Saw two turkeys and a fox though. Will definitely try this area for winter and maybe spring turkey.
Don't have anybody to help. It's about 250 across this field. The deer could have gone 3 different directions. Path in line of travel would put him going into some backyards then across a road. Left is across another road and into another cut bean field. Does anyone know of a tracking dog in NE Ohio? I can only find one in southern Ohio and he can't come today.
I'd be on my hands and knees looking for blood. You only have an enttrance hole so you are not getting good blood. That buck is dead somewhere close and I'd say within 100 yds in thick cover. Start looking for fresh tracks or even grass that has been trampled, even without the presense of blood. Another 30 yds here and there and you might pick up the blood trail again.
