Headed in again this AM. Didn't see any deer yesterday afternoon. Son saw 6 together but never came in range.
Just had a doe at 30 yds directly behind me in a thicket. Pacing back and forth. Wouldn't come out. Wind was bad for me in that direction. Waiting to see if anything else comes around or if she comes in a different way
Back at it. 2 hrs till end of shooting time. Wind is better for me this afternoon. Hopefully not too windy for the deer to move.
Have only seen the one doe yesterday morning. Don't know what happened to NJ this hunting season but the deer are gone. Locals here say the same. The part of central NJ where I hunt had one of the highest deer densities I had ever seen or heard of and now there are very few. I can come up with no other conclusion but a virus must have run through the herd and wiped out a good portion of it. Hunters, coyotes, good acorn crop and nocturnal movement just can't explain the decrease I've seen this year.
Back at it again. Last sit. Was going to be here tomorrow but 12" of snow coming. Crazy NJ getting snow and not VT. So need to get north of the storm this evening. 2 hrs to go!
Just whacked a doe at ten yards. Think I hit the off side shoulder blade. Half arrow penetration. Gonna give her till 1700 then hopefully go recover her.
