Truthfully, I think we're past the peak. It just wasn't a hunters rut. If I am wrong, there is going to be one heck of a gun season and I fear what that would hold forthe already dwindled population. Really wish I"d have been out last weeks foggy mornings but I had already committed to the switch
In the stand light rain with the wind in my face looking for a buck. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I called it at noon, might be back out Saturday but more likely firearm weekend with a hand cannon. Try for a late season doe after that
Keep at it today. One or more of you are going to score this pm. As for me, things just got interesting. One of the areas on the military base I hunt is open for the first time in weeks tomorrow. I will be there all day. Already know where I want to be.....just need some cruising bucks.
So it started raining and I threw in the towel. Walk back to my shed take off all my gear walk up to the house to realize all the doors are locked and I don't have a spare key outside,, back to the woods I go!!!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Wow... What an unfortunate series of events. Chose to stay in this morning and go to the store for some trail cam batteries. Got home and headed out to switch some batteries on my field edge camera. This was around 1230 which will mean more in a second. Swapped them and then cut through the woods to look over a hollow. Stood there for a few minutes then decided to head back. Halfway through the woods I noticed a doe in the field. Then I saw another body and my eyes widened when it lifted its head to reveal the antlers. After the buck showed, I immediately backed away and headed toward the house. Grabbed the essentials and then made a big half circle back to the field. When I got close enough I dropped the quiver and started crawling on all fours. It took awhile due to the field being filled with does but I made it within 50 yards of the buck. A few problems, though. 1. The buck kept moving around the does. 2. Fence was on the field edge. 3. As much as I practice from long range I would never take a shot that far. There was a trail meeting with the field so I started to work toward it but one doe off to the side caught my movement. She didn't bust but it was enough to make her move 10-20 yards, putting the others on alert. Eventually they settled down but the buck was working away from me, toward my house of all places. Dropping back again, I moved quietly but swiftly to try and ambush the buck. Arriving at a spot, I could see most of the group but the buck was out of sight due to the field dropping down. A minute or two without seeing the buck. I slowly stood up to see that he vanished. I never counted the does but at least 8 were still in the field working their way back into the woods. No clue where he could've went because there are houses in all directions. I'm thinking he dove into the woods just beside the neighbors house. So there you go. Midday activity, bucks out in field during the rain, and with some does. I learned a valuable lesson and, like an Ahole, will be sitting on that field hoping he's still with the doe in the evening.
Hung a new set where I had been seeing the bucks move just out of range with the other set. The chess match continues. Blessings. ...........Pastorjim
Just got up about 20 minutes ago. 15 minutes ago had a 3 pointer running with his nose to the ground. Grunted and made him run faster. Maybe it is a sign of things to come , like his daddy? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
All settled in for the evening. A little warm but perfect wind for my stand. Plus neighbor on property across the street is our walking his woods. Might push something my way.
