Ya that's what I thought after I looked it up. It's probably just inexperience tinkering and getting my rest centered. Nick, It's a mission venture.
You don't need a perfect tear to have a good shooting bow. Tim Gillingham only uses paper to tell what the arrow is doing and he studies it so he knows exactly whats happening. Most people don't stop at paper tuning, they probably do bare shaft, french and walk back tuning too. So it's not a bad thing to have a left tear, most people after they do every tuning method end up with a left tear anyway.
I don't shoot through paper often ...it pretty meaning less. To the OP. On a standard three Fletch, cock up or down will result in the same contest issue if Its hitting your cable. I adjust my cable rod to have min clearance, I shoot the cock vain to the right and both odd vain towards the cable as it gives me the most clearance.
Cock vane down is not all that unusual, used to be the standard with the TM Hunter style rest a ways back. Most shoot cock vane up with the QAD, I do on mine too, but if having down works, leave it. If you want to experiment a bit though, put a small amount of lipstick or a Mean Streak marker on the edge of the vanes, and try it up, see where the contact happening. V
