Respect is a two way street we do not work for the police they work for us the people. Next cops know the risk when they sign up and it's not easy but it is the job.
Sheep not. We should never fall into the trap of not questioning authority on any level because we are maybe the last country that has the Rights we fought for, every one not just a chosen few.
I live in an unicorporated township, I have little to no interface with LEOs. I did get pulled over about 7 years ago I got a warning.
I know a few cops over the years that are friends enough that I would not let them date my daughter,or drive my car
Police are held accountable for their actions, more so than average citizens. They are not out there to get you, unless you are giving them a reason. I have never experience a police officer treating me with disrespect, but I have never disrespected them either. I suppose if I was acting like a jackass, they might treat me a little different. I'm not for a police state, and I also agree they don't need .50 caliber rifles or MRAP's, but they do need have better firepower than the criminals.
As I see it, the guy could only reasonably expect what he got. Either he was going to do it or they were. The guy was running the show. Put down the gun and no one gets hurt. Don't break the law and then you can complain if excessive force is used. If you do break the law don't be surprised if it goes bad for you. Last time I checked, resisting, delaying, and obstructing a police officer was against the law. If you don't like the law change it. I don't think very many people could shoot someone and stop a threat in the split second it takes to move your arm from aiming at your head to them. Only in the movies. We don't pay the police officers enough to take a bullet for us or to stand there and get rocks thrown at them. Rocks can kill too. Do a little research and see how many police have been killed with there own guns. All of these shootings by police in the news have one common thing and that is the suspect did not do what he was told or did the wrong thing. Personal responsibility is getting rarer and rarer.
There's good and bad officers. I have a few friends that are, one is a state trooper, one is a cityscapes cop. From my experience, its the young cops who have the attitude. Their both in their late 30's now. The city cop friend.... He grew up after a few years on the job. The ST, he is still cool. He never fell into I'm a cop I deserve respect status. See that a lot with the younger ones. Sent from my XT830C
I believe if you pull out a gun in the presence of one or more LEOs, you should expect to be shot. Aim for his leg? That's not what I learned in my CPL class. I don't think they teach that in the police academy either.
