Trying to get into bowhunting but having trouble finding gear. Unfortunately, I'm 6'7" tall with a 32 1/2" draw length...and left handed. The closest shooting supply guy says I'm a tough fit and likely going to have to spend a small fortune to get set up. He thinks a Hoyt Alpha Max with some kind of "Mod Kit". Any idea what that means? Also, any other recommendations for accessories would be appreciated. Thanks to all and looking forward to joining the bowhunting club!
A great way to get into bowhunting is a package deal. Bowtech has a bow called the Sniper. Fortunately for you it comes in 27-32 draws. Pop a loop in there and you are all set at 32.5. Check it out. http://www.bowtecharchery.com/bow_sniper.php
the upside to your dilema is that on the used market (if you don't mind used gear) is that with draw lengths that long there are very few bows to choose from, but the prices are comparably low because of the low demand... find one from one of the major manufacturer on ebay or on acherytalk and make a low ball offer, i'll bet they take just about whatever you offer ....
Each of the big manufacturers has a bow model with a 32" draw. The problem is going to be the 32" draw and LH. Best thing might be to shop around and find a few you think you may like and then call the manufacturer to see what availability they have in LH of that model. Best of luck! Oh, never thought to ask... are you left eyed as well as left handed? If you're right eyed you might dodge that LH bullet since you should shoot your eye dominance and not your hand dominance.
Weed, Try this link: http://www.pse-archery.com/prod.php?k=57248&u=0810GX# PSE makes a RH/LH bow that is for big long drawing guys like you... Shoot me a PM if you need more help getting this bow. It's an awesome bow!
Thanks again guys. Yeah, unfortunately (or fortunately) actually am left eye dominant. But I shoot a shotgun/rifle right handed...maybe why I'm the butt of so many jokes during pheasant and quail season and waterfowl season! Bow definitely "feels right" when shooting left handed. The guy at the shooting supply (Smokey Valley in Lindsborg, KS) seems pretty knowledgeable and is a good guy to deal with. He recommended the Hoyt AM as well as a PSE (Dream Season, I think). I want something good, but maybe a little forgiving as I'm just getting started. I have big dreams for this sport though! Would like to transition to other big game and do some travelling out tornado alley!
Here is a partial list of some 32"-34" bows. Plenty of options out there these days. http://www.huntersfriend.com/2007-Bow-Reviews/compound-bows-long-draw-only.htm
AGREE! Very Nice Bow!! I wish I could get it in my draw. Love the straight riser(Mojo Riser) At 32.5 draw that thing should be smokin fast!
