I have never been big on hunting early October. For some twisted reason I woke up a few days back in a state of panic and decided I had to hunt the first few days of October so I am off the 1st-4th. Has anyone ever had luck in early October? Historically I have had minimal big buck movement but this year I have some nice bucks bedding in late morning by my new stand so I want to try to get my 10 pointer early before the Mojito Bandito ruins the pattern.

During early Oct. last year I saw alot of deer movement, but like you said, hardly any big buck movement. I did kill my buck on Oct. 6th, but he was only a 1 1/2 year old.

On the public land I was hunting last year I seen alot of movement (mostly does) in the first few weeks of Oct.It was hard to see or hear them with all the growth in the woods. The tree canopy's and forest floor was so thick it would have been impossible to get a shot off.I did see a real nice 8 point 3 to 3.5 year old taken on Oct 9th in 2006 at 9am.So they are still moving in daylight when its warm how warm Im not sure.Setup over that watering hole on your property and they will come.

Early Oct. ain't bad. Just depends when & where you set up. Try to catch em' comn back from feedn. But it really depends on the weather. If it cools down, they'll move a little more during the day. But hunt'n any time beats work'n!

I have filled several tags over the years the first week of Oct. Killed one opening day over a muddy water hole after a drought, a few others comming from or going to feeding areas, and will also hunt last years buck sign if I know hes still alive and the path near it is still used.

Good time to whack a doe in the early pm! Put some meat in the freezer and work out some of the nerves on a live target!
