My cousin and his son came to hunt today and didn't show up until around 6:30 AM. I had to take each one to his stand. While taking his son in, there 80 yards out in the CRP was a shooter silhoutted by the daybreak behind him. About 100 yards from the kids' stand he started looking our direction. I froze in place and had the kid do the same. He looked for what seemed like 10 minutes, but it was probably only 90 seconds and then walked to the Northeast away from us. My cousin had sprayed his boots and the boys boots with fox urine. I don't know if he smelled that or just sensed something was wrong. Anyway, we got into the stands and at 8:15 (approximate) a doe went by the boys' stand and being a 12 year old he took a shot and missed. What he didn't see was another shooter about 15 yards behind the doe. The buck stopped, and then walked back to the West away from the boy. Seeing 2 shooters in one morning got my mental juices flowing. In 15 minutes, I'm going out to put up the neighbor's double bull blind. I also have the camcorder charging and I'm going to attempt to tape and shoot. I know, I know, we're talking about me multitasking, but if it works out it'll be sweet! Good luck to everyone else!!! Mark
Thanks! The only part that worries me about this evening is the increase in winds today. Hopefully, they will die down around sunset. Even with that in mind, I am so stoked!
i feel the same Mark... Im driving down the road, and corn is cut some places, its getting cold, and im seeing deer.....Its finally about here man...the best part of the year... Good luck get one of those bruisers tonight..
So, I was in the blind at 4:00 PM and ready to go. Video Camera set up and all I have to do is wait. At 5:30, the wind dies down, and I mean completely gone! At 6:10, I see a doe coming in from North of me. 5 minutes later, I see that nice 9 pointer coming from a draw about 150 yards South of my house. He stops every so often and eyeballs the doe (or in her general direction anyway). The doe comes out of a dip in the field and the buck disappears in the same dip. I turn the video camera on since both of them are headed right towards me. The doe is now about 75 yards North and on a collision course with the blind. I see antlers coming out of the dip, then ears, his whole head. A few seconds later, I can see from the belly up. Then, to my dismay, I hear the neighbor to the South start his ATV. He rev's the engine a couple of times and then starts my direction. I opened one of the windows on the blind and he's riding the fenceline headed right at me! This is the 3rd time this year this has happened. It happened a few times last year too. The doe has turned and is prancing to the Northeast. I look back to the buck and he's already gone. The neighbor rides to his East fenceline, bangs on a 55 gal drum 9 or 10 times and then jumps back on the 4 wheeler and rides home. I can't wait for shotgun season to start. I'm gonna ride the fenceline every morning and night!!!! If I had bottle rockets, I'd even consider shooting them off to celebrate sunrise and sunset every day of gun season!
I don't know and cannot say for sure. He did this several times last year during bow season and he only shotgun hunts. He also knows that I mainly bow hunt. I had a talk with him last year when I got exclusive rights to hunt the timber south of him and he told me in no uncertain terms that his son has hunted that land for years and was going to continue to do so no matter what the landowner said. All our discussion have been civil but I might get a little testy if this continues.
