I'm not saying I'm pro or con anything. I tend to keep my politics to myself as it's a heated debate no matter who you talk to. What I dislike in today's society is all the negative news. So I thought I would post something positive. I just read an article in Peterson's Hunting. It states: "Obama decided to increase funding for the North American Wetlands Conservation Act by $10 million for 2010." I didn't think that was much, but then I read on: "The additional money is nearly 25 percent more than 2009 funding of $42.6 million and will go directly to on-the-ground wetlands projects throughout North America. The Obama administration has signaled it plans to fully-fund the Act to the tune of $75 million per year by 2012." Again, I'm not saying I'm pro or con Obama, I just thought it was good news that should be heard, especially anyone near wetlands. Have a good 4th of July everyone.
I am not a big fan of Obama, but if you would have posted that he is cutting funding this thing would be 3 pages by now. The whole country just wants to focus on negatives.
Well, look at this way. Obama has a 3.7 Trillion dollar proposed budget. Not to hard to believe that he could toss $10 million to the Wetland Conservation Act. Before you get all giddy about this generosity by the Messiah, realize that he's underfunding the Conservation Reserve Program. (by about $700 million, last I heard) From the Outdoor Wire: "the budget request restricts the popular and effective Conservation Reserve Program. In the request, there is a prohibition on federal incentives for landowners to open their land to public hunting and fishing if similar incentives were provided by a state. The Wildlife Habitat Incentive Program was also cut to half of its previous allocation, and the struggling Wetlands Reserve Program was cut from previous levels. "This restriction on the Open Fields provision of the 2008 Farm Bill moves away from the intent to provide better access for hunters and anglers," said Sutherland [director of governmental affairs for Ducks Unlimited]. "We're concerned that it will also discourage farmers and ranchers from enrolling their land in the Conservation Reserve Program to begin with."" It's great if you can find happiness with that little ray of sunshine, but me... I see an overwhelming dark cloud on the horizon. Sorry.
It's like a pinhole in a black ceiling, letting in that tiny strand of light....which fades out before it even reaches the floor. Like said, give away enough money...it HAS to end up somewhere.
