    Thanks peak

Just hopped online and bought a bunch more magazines. NY is a "No Assault Weapons" state already, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Obama change the definition from 10 rounds down to a max of 5. I just bought 5 more of the 10 rounders just in case. At this point, the only thing I need is a couple thousand rounds of 5.56 to lock up and sit on in case it ever hits the fan.

guess my FN Herstal Five-seveN will be on the list also since it holds 20 in the mag with no mods/aftermarket mags...

I'm wanting to get an AR :nana: [not in the budget now though :bash:] but looks like I'll have to wait for the NEXT president to lift this ban! :smash:

I'm with you RJ, I bought two stripped lowers a couple of weeks ago and parts kits to go with.

That article is ridiculous, I'm glad American citizens are losing their rights because the Mexicans cant police their own people. Something tells me that the 700 people arrested WEREN'T F-ING LEGAL to start with. I don't know about you guys, but I think it would be cheaper to buy 700 rounds of 5.56 than to prosecute 700 illegals.

What is going to constitute an assault weapon, more simply, what were considered assault weapons previously?

The last time when Clinton passed it in 04' it basically was on the following regulations. I'm sure Obama will put more teeth in it though.

Semi-automatic rifles able to accept detachable magazines and two or more of the following:
    Folding stock
    pistol grip
    Bayonet mount
Flash suppressor, or threaded barrel designed to accommodate one
Grenade launcher (more precisely, a muzzle device which enables the launching or firing of rifle grenades)

Semi-automatic pistols with detachable magazines and two or more of the following:
Magazine that attaches outside the pistol grip
Threaded barrel to attach barrel extender, flash suppressor, handgrip, or suppressor
Barrel shroud that can be used as a hand-hold
Unloaded weight of 50 oz (1.4 kg) or more
A semi-automatic version of an automatic firearm

Semi-automatic shotguns with two or more of the following:
    Folding or telescoping stock
    Pistol grip
Fixed capacity of more than 5 rounds
    Detachable magazine

No big surprise. I've had mini 14's and AK's before, I have none now. I've always felt I should be able to own any weapon I want(tommy gun, bazooka, uzi, sherman tank :D ) provided I pass the background checks. My guns are going on 20 years old and still haven't killed anyone, they must be defective.

I've been looking at the new Springfield XDM 9. I wonder if it will be banned since it holds 17 shells. Will the Dems ever figure out that all this legislation does is prevent the legitimate purchaser from getting them, not the gang banger?

Unfortunately I don't have the money to purchase an AR before the ban, so I'm going to have to hunker down at Matt's camp if things get bad:D

Anyone that wants to try and get in before the ban, get yourself a stripped lower and all the hi cap mags you can afford. That *should* be the only parts you will really want/need but may be restricted in the future, and they really aren't that expensive. If you look for a lesser known brandname stripped lower, you can find them for $150 or so still, best places to look is probably the classifieds on www.ar15.com. It is very unlikely you will find anyone locally with them in stock. You can buy the other parts at another time when you have more $$$. The stripped lower reciever is the only part on the gun with a number............as of now, you can buy every other part for the gun off the internet legally (unless your state restricts you such as NY and hi cap mags), and will likely be able to after any ban as well unless they put some new restrictions in place.

You have to go through an FFL dealer to have lowers stripped, right?

Yep, but if you go on gunbroker.com you can find yourself a local FFL holder that is friendly with taking shipments and processing paperwork for you. Basically the process is you contact the FFL, let him know you want to purchase a stripped lower online. As long as you have no felonies or violent crimes, you will be fine. Then you buy the gun, and your FFL will contact the seller with a copy of their FFL license. When that's done, you fill out the standard FFL paperwork, they run it, you get approved, they give the green flag to your seller to ship. The lower is shipped to your FFL, and you take delivery when it gets there.

What type of lowers do you recommend looking at besides Colt (too expensive). RRA, DPMS? Bushmaster?
