So son called and said looks like trespassing with gun in hand is now a class E Felony. I'm putting this here for all you out of state hunters planning trips to NYS this year..look up all new gun regulations and which effect your travel and hunting. If this is true remember many NYS public is not always well marked. If you need a trailing dog these guys will not cross lines without pre done permission because they carry. Find all owners near your area and get #'sready to call ahead of time. You may need to contact town halls to get recent #'s and owners. Not all town halls have daily or regular hours.... Stay safe
Just about EVERYWHERE legal gun owners carry is now a felony thanks to our 'knee-jerk... I'll show them' governor. Thanks for posting though as out-of-staters (and all New Yorkers) need to be aware of these newly implemented unconstitutional laws.
If I lived in NY...... wait...... that would NEVER happen. But, if I did that "did" would be past tense.
there are states I would never want to live in(will never live in), NY is one of 'em .... this type of crap is one of many reason people are fleeing those states from hell .... I hope this is fought tooth and nail in the courts ..... even though I have my lifetime CC permit, we here are now constitutional carry .. thank goodness for a good conservative state, Gov. and legislature ... we welcome all conservatives to move here, libs and dems can stay in those hell hole states and rot ...
I live in this God forsaken state because my parents, siblings, kids, grandkids are all here… it’s a viscous circle… I absolutely will not retire here… 5 more years I am out and moving to the most conservative state I can find with the most temperate climate. Any ideas? Where do you live, 0317? Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I'm going to argue that it's about time that a state put some teeth in their trespassing laws. Not sure it should be a felony but around here it's a slap on the wrist and a "don't do it again" for the most part. If you've never had a neighbor that thinks all the surrounding land is his playground, count yourself lucky. If if you are trespassing with a CCW permit? Maybe you don't deserve to have it.
If the law was about trespassing that would be one thing, but the law isn't about that. It's about defying the SCOTUS decision in NYSRA vs Bruen and restricting carry in as many locations as possible with the harshest penalties as possible. Basically, if you are carrying a firearm anywhere in the state of New York you are doing so illegally until proven otherwise. Guilty until proven innocent in a court of law.
Indiana .. Southern/south of Indy part of the state has some great deer hunting so does the NE ..... I'm in the N/NW portion, we have an influx of Illinoisans moving in, the crap of Chitcago is moving east and the rising crime in Gary/Hammond/Whiting/Portage/Valpo is showing that, not to mention the destruction of farmland/woods for more damn development and housing .. it sucks watching this area get destroyed by development ... If I was to move/retire, it would to the southern portion into a small town area ... stay away from the larger cities ....
Thanks bro…. I’m leaning towards Tennessee, Missouri, Indiana, Ohio Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Picman, if you have read me for any length of time you could see I feel the same,though........this state does not mark it's public well..at least around here. Also how, easy would it be for a nasty neighbour to lie.and not everyone posts their lands yet STILL you could be trespassed. Also out of state hunters don't always have all info...like the new laws on weapon transportation. There needs to be clear and concise rules. There needs to be proof give ,everyone has a camera on cell phone. Guys call for recovery that gets a yes best have proof of yes. Too many out there willing to do anything to stop hunters or gun ownership...remember state made up of many Dems...just think of Ithica area....
As a public land hunter in currently 2 states and having hunted out west, I can tell you not many states mark their public land boundaries. Some places have markers at a corner or where the line is near the road. There are rarely markers within the public that that I have ever seen unless it is about to or has been recently logged. It is left up to the adjoining landowners to post their land if they wish or as required under their state law. How does a land owner identify a trespasser in NY? Because we are no longer required to wear a back tag in MI or WI, it is most difficult to accurately identify a trespasser at any distance over 20 or so feet. This is also the reason, I continue to tell my wife that she is nuts to consider buying property that borders public land regardless the "reasonable" price. I thank you for your PSA and CLS's information. It just reinforces my decision to never hunt in NY. I would suggest to anyone hunting in a situation where you might be close to private land when hunting public, use a hunting app and turn the tracking feature on. Would be hard for a judge to ignore that "impartial" evidence over a grainy cell pic.
You can bet they'll prosecute, buy walk free??? Who the **** knows. You can bet it won't be with your firearm if they let you walk. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G891A using Tapatalk
When it comes to white mostly male bambi killers...you can bet they would prosecute. Albany controls Purse strings. They have held that fact over areas in the past
