You realize real quick that your little AWD SUV won't go anywhere when the snow is a foot deep or more..
It was at the opposite end of the runway from the water. Plane had landed and was turning around at the end to the taxiway...oopsie. Crashed into the berm and fence. 16 injured-back and neck, 1 transported. Hazmat is working on the fuel spill. Booked a room in the city and preparing for a 12hr train ride tomorrow. ~Bill
Corrected: so to orient...the bay is on either end of the runway and at the end ofthe other (in front of the jet). I'm usually coming in over the bay, that doesn't come into play unless you have a wicked slice (or hook depending on wind direction)... ~Bill
Couldn't get a flight till Sat...catching the train tomorrow at 7am. I suspect somebody is still moping up a bunch of Jet A. ~Bill
Btw-i don't drive a little SUV, unless its the rental vehicle for the trip. This week was a Mazda 6 though. ~Bill
For those of you that don't know. LaGuardia had one of the smallest runways in the country so Mistakes like this are not too uncommon. I live 15-20 min away from LaGuardia but if I have a choice, I don't fly to or from there.
