Why is the mayor of NYC acting like a nanny? The government needs to keep its nose out of what people are drinking and eating. Last time I checked this was still a free country. Or am I the one who's bent?
This was brought up in the discussion of large capacity firearms magazines because it’s the same sort of thing. You are correct, the government has no business telling people how many ozs of soda they can buy just like they have no business telling people how many bullets a magazine can hold. Its simply un-American and is the advancement of liberalism which be definition is a feel good measure that does nothing except expand government.
You are the one whose health insurance premiums and taxes are increasing to pay for those that are too dumb to know any better. Or worse, dont care about slowly killing themselves at our great expense. I can see both sides of this one. I think the limit should be 10 ounces, and no taping cups together. Unless they are used exclusively for beer.
Large sugary drinks are illegal... marijuana, still illegal but largely un-enforced, meth... ignored for the most part. Slurpees... toss the offender in the slammer... hmmm? To protect the rest of us... c'mon really? There is two sides of this one?
What about diet soda? It does nothing to make you fatter, minus the high sodium content potentially leading to BP problems. Is there a limit on the number of burgers you can buy? I can't see this holding up in court.
Okay, this is about mandatory insurance. Since insurance companies will no longer be allowed to turn anyone away for obesity or other pre-existing conditions, whether self caused or not, NYC (at the urging of the "resident") passes a test law to begin laying the ground work to force compliance with governmental regulations. It seems benign and ridiculous on the surface, but make no mistake... it is very calculated to force a legal review that will be used for larger challenges later. Mark it down.
More and more government to play mommy and daddy for people who cannot think for themselves or take responsibility for their actions.
Does anyone else see a world similar to that of the movie "Idiocracy" in our future if things keep going this way?
NYC has only a part to play in the insurance premiums as they aren't set based on a lone municipality, its population and their health. So that argument is a red herring. Why the city feels it needs to put itself in this position is beyond reason--straight up socialistic and liberal mindset. However, if sugar and salt came before the FDA today for review neither would be allowed and the mega drink discussion would be moot. However, it hasn't.
The people he is trying to 'help' make healthy choices are probably just going to order multiple sodas... So they will probably end up drinking more - ha ha... It's a joke in my opinion...
Yep, I've said it over and over. I personally am a fan of Dawin's theory of natural selection, but as a species, we have actually went in the wrong direct, and allowed the weaker to thrive and reproduce at a higher rate than those that are positively contributing to society.
Not red... blaze orange ten mile cloth colored herring. It has to be highly visible and in your face stupid. Remember "Not God bless America... God **** America!" This is an in your face anti-American full blown attack on civil liberty. Read the Humanist and Communist Manifestos... please... then you'll get it. The plan is written down in black and white and is being followed out to the letter.
New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg claims he will appeal a New York judge's choice to overturn the town's ban on sweet beverages served in cups larger than 16 ounces. The soda ban was supposed to have gone into impact on Tues, March 12, but it was overturned right before.
They just are wanting to make more money of the dang sales tax having people buy 2 drinks instead of one...greedy pricks
