Well I missed out on this thread last year, but I'll be following it this year. Last year was an up and down year for me. Ended up shouldering a nice old buck (24" inside spread), tracking good blood for 2 days, only to have a neighbor find him and refuse to admit it was my deer. But what are you gonna do, I made a marginal shot. I killed a respectable buck that I was very happy about just over 2 weeks later. I hunt mostly 8G, 9H and 9F because that is where home is. But I also hunt here and there in 7J because I go to college in Syracuse. As for pre-season work, it almost wasn't worth doing plots at all but I did one little one and the severe drought we had really did a number on it. Lots of big bucks around this year for me and I couldn't be more eager to see them drop their velvet. Maybe later today I will post some trail camera pictures of the bucks I would be more than happy shooting this year. I have an archery Colorado elk hunt the first week in September and then I'll be ready for the whitetails. Good luck this season guys!
Was lucky enough to get out and scout last night, lots of fawns and does at first. Then had a really big 10 come out of the woods briefly before going back in. I believe my girlfriend found his set last year (mid 130's). Then later in the evening had a really nice young 9 come out, bedded down and just at dark 2 mature bigger deer came out and bedded with him. It was too dark to make out racks but they looked to be big. Got some good rain last night so hopefully that will help out my struggling food plots.
Lots of sign at my camp in the southern finger lakes. Missed a mega giant last year there but if he survived the gun season he'll be back. Card pull coming the end of the week! Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
I didn't but I'm getting it mounted so when I pick it up I'll ask them to score it for me. True life taxidermy! Place is amazing, I highly recommend it.
