Polls can be manipulated to say what ever they want. I'm sure that pole was conducted area codes that are near or in high population centers. If I were to take a pole in rural counties, I'm sure the results would be completely opposite.
Germ - We were already a AWB state. They redefined the term assault weapon, requiring registration of newly defined assault weapons, reduced the magazines from 10 to 7 rounds, put background checks in place to purchase ammo, made 10+ round mags illegal even if preban, flagging purchases of large quantities of ammo, and forcing gun owners to renew pistol permits every 5 years. We already had the strictest assault weapon and gun laws in the country.
Our NYS politicians by and large are a bunch of scum bags that are our for themselves and the handout class they pander too. The way they passed that bill 15 minutes after its printing at 11pm at night shows what a bunch of SB they are..... My senator Jim Seward didnt vote for the bill, so at least I know that he is still trying to represent the majority of his district who are mostly against any type of new useless gun control laws... Also watch out as this one of Cuomo's fist moves to put himself on the national stage. One Business moved and two more to go and then NY can go **** in their hats because they wont be getting my taxes anymore.
For those of you that live in NY and support 2nd ammendment rights please take a look at this petition from State Senator Kathleen Marchione to appeal the new bill. http://www.nysenate.gov/webform/sta...ing-new-york-state-senator-kathleen-marchione
this is only the first domino fellas. Make no mistake about that. Voting them all out, oh that will do a lot of good. I'm sure those who would be voted in would surely repeal this ban instantly. I hate to think of drastic scenarios, but if this kind of legislation keeps up, I think we are headed for some things I never thought possible.
Hah - I went and bought a Lipseys edition Glock 19 Gen4 today and 1k rounds for it on my lunch break before they voted it through the assembly. I always wanted a 9mm, and figured what better time than now to do it. Worst case scenario is they can't transfer the mags to me, and I'll have to find a way to get them elsewhere. Going tomorrow to have my permit ammended to include the gun and hopefully pick it up when done.
I am back at my desk this morning after a long night in which 17 other courageous GOP senators joined me in voting NO on the governor’s bill to crack down on law abiding gun owners. New York’s already onerous gun regulations – a ban on semiautomatics and a lengthy pistol licensing process – now become even more strict with the legislation that will reduce magazine capacities and broaden the definition of “assault weapons” to include more guns, based only on cosmetic characteristics. I voted NO because the bill, while including some positive steps toward dealing with the mentally ill, just isn’t tough enough on the real criminals who get guns illegally and use them for murderous ends. We should not have rushed to pass a bill that diminishes our Second Amendment rights. As you know, I have always been skeptical of gun bans as a panacea for gun crimes committed by people with illegally-obtained guns. That’s why I have never voted for a gun control bill. I fought to go after the real problem – the illegal guns which make up 90 percent of the gun crimes in NYC and 70 percent of the crimes across the rest of the state. Key provisions of the governor’s bill: *Expanded definition of ‘assault weapon;’ *Recertification (not renewal) of pistol licenses; *Background check on all ammunition purchases; *No Internet purchases of ammo except through a gun dealer; *Registration of currently owned guns defined as ‘assault weapons’ with the state police; *Private sales of long guns will have to go through a dealer for a NICS check; *Limits on the number of cartridges in a magazine to seven (can still possess a ten round magazine; but can load it only with seven rounds); *Pistol license to buy pistol/revolver ammunition … and others. What we defeated: *Confiscation of ten round magazines; *Statewide database on all guns; *Smaller limits on magazine capacity; *Limits on the number of magazines one could possess; *One gun per month purchase limits; *Relicensing of all pistol licensees; *Microstamping; *Mandatory locking and storage of all guns in the home. I understand the concern about the Connecticut killings. This bill won’t do much to prevent such a horrendous act from happening again, since it is light on treatment for the mentally ill. As always, I will continue to advocate for the rights of law abiding citizens to own and possess guns for lawful purposes, like hunting, collecting, target shooting or protection of hearth and home. So is the above what they whittled the bill away to for the Assembly vote? Not sure when that was written. This country is going to crap one state at a time. Secondly, why are they pushing this through so fast? Similar to the lame duck session we went through here or are they just hoping to get accolades from Obama during his 2nd amendment raping tomorrow morning by blindsiding its constituents?
What's the support for this in the public?? Since it would be a state law, couldn't you gather enough signatures to refer to a public vote and shoot it down that way (pun intended)?
And it's done, the act just got passed through the state assembly without even blinking an eye. I'm disgusted. Anyone know of any good areas to live along the Texas Gulf Coast? I'm 23, have a degree in finance, currently work for an investment bank and am looking to relocate. Any areas with a finance district would suffice.
One of my customers is a state rep here in Maine and he just told me there were over 80 pieces pf gun legislation introduced at the state house today
Their see to be little support for it in most of the upstate regions, the support is mostly from down state and the limited contacted area of sheep I mean people in a few upstate cities. The reason the senate was voting on a 45 minute old bill at 11 pm is that for the most part they wanted as little of it as possible to be read and understood, and hence no time for members to gain feedback from their constituents. They knew if they could ram it though the senate that is would pass in a heartbeat in the democratic house. We no longer live in state that governs for the tax payers. The politicians are firmly beholden to the low info voter with their hands out. The only up side is that if you look at the demographic profile of people and companies leaving the state compared to people importing to the sate you will see a trend. Money and business are leaving in droves and being replaced but professional leeches/people who make there living sapping the tax payer dry....NY will be broke faster then they could ever dream possible. We are helping business and people leave every day, and I do it with a smile on my face.....I already have one foot out the door and my companies will going with me.
Haha, we have offices in San Fran, but not looking to go from the frying pan into the fryer. South Dakota? What is there for someone my age to do besides get into a bar fight with oil rig guys over the one girl in 50 sq miles. Texas sounds much better to me.
