Fire them all! I hope when your election comes around, someone is getting all this info out to the public because the majority of people have no idea how their representatives are actually voting. They don't take the time to look it up.
Not yet, but democrats hold the assembly by 67% right now. Considering the Republicans held the senate majority and it passed, the assembly approval is simply a formality. I don't see how they won't approve it.
How the hell does a Republican majority pass this kind of crap. For all of you out there saying federal legislation will not pass because of the republican house majority, this is a prime example that our elected officials do not always vote the way their constituents want. They are still politicians.
How do you know it's not what the majority of their constituents want? Saw a picture of a meeting of the Gun Task force in white house, leading the charge John Dingell, my Rep from Michigan. A democrat who has a A+ rating with the NRA, a man I talked to when he came to Cabela's in the Gun Library. Times are a changing.
I feel safer already. The disarming or criminalizing of law abiding gun owners should outrage just about everyone...I cant imagine the majority of constituents are in favor of this....but who knows. Another bunch of knee jerk reactions and changes based on emotion rather than facts/statistics that will not have an impact on the majority of the criminal population who will find these laws as laughable as I do. But it gives the politicians the ability to say "hey, at least we did something." Sad state of affairs.
Capital District news last night had a poll that indicated 86% didn't feel we needed more gun laws in NY. Now I understand in NYC it would likely be different than upstate, but the majority of the State Senate in the upstate region voted for this. The fact that the bill was made available 15 minutes before they voted clearly shows they didn't care about the thoughts of the constituents. One of them (can't remember right now) actually said they would not give it the standard 3 day review process as they didn't want pro gun groups to have the ability to review and oppose it.
Seen on Illinoiscarry someone posted an item in the bill. One had said possession of 3 or more firearms is a felony? Did that pass as well didn't see it mentioned here Here is what was posted S 265.02 Criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree. A person is guilty of criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree when: (1) Such person commits the crime of criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree as defined in subdivision one, two, three or five of section 265.01, and has been previously convicted of any crime; or (2) Such person possesses any explosive or incendiary bomb, bombshell, firearm silencer, machine-gun or any other firearm or weapon simulating a machine-gun and which is adaptable for such use; or (3) Such person knowingly possesses a machine-gun, firearm, rifle or shotgun which has been defaced for the purpose of concealment or prevention of the detection of a crime or misrepresenting the identity of such machine-gun, firearm, rifle or shotgun; or (5) (i) Such person possesses three or more firearms; or (ii) such person possesses a firearm and has been previously convicted of a felony or a class A misdemeanor defined in this chapter within the five years immediately preceding the commission of the offense and such possession did not take place in the person's home or place of business; or (6) Such person knowingly possesses any disguised gun
Sorry Germ, but I would have to believe that if this truly was what their constituents wanted, it wouldn't have been rammed through with the speed and timing it was. Not to mention what Matt already stated he heard while listening to the Senate proceedings last night. But you are right. Times certainly are changing.
I should also add that I haven't read the whole bill. It will be interesting to see if it addresses any specifics to mental health beyond limiting access to firearms and mandated reporting by psychiatrists.
I am willing to bet, NY as a state favors a change. Perhaps not what they are doing. The reality is we are out numbered
The reality is obamacare was a loser in the polls and the congress still rammed it thru. Liberals pass anything they want and dont care about polls.
It would be interesting to see as states cut funds to state run mental health hospitals and they closed, was their a rise in crime rate, violent crimes would be the one to look at. I know in Michigan we have closed a lot of these places, my question is where do these people go? I would also like to know the relationship of using "pill" method of treating mental health has increased violent crime.
Actually the funny thing is you are correct about Obamacare, but when you took some of what was in it, and did not use the word ObamaCare folks like those items. We are a strange bunch.
Good points and questions. Funds are being cut in the wrong places and redirected with misguided, and in some cases, utter ignorant intentions.
