I'm sure RJ (Matt) knows more, but it looks like the bill passed through the Senate last evening. Pretty large and sweeping reform. Very little mention of mental health reform, but we all knew that would take a back seat. Interesting to see how the Assembly handles it today. http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2013/01/14/cuomo-new-york-guns/1833271/
THere's been many times over the years of my existance on this planet where political issues have bothered me whether it was local, state or federal issues, but this gun control debate that's consuming the nation now tops everything by a wide margin. 2 days before all this stuff hit in Sandy Hook, I purchased my flintlock over a pistol caliber carbine to plink with. Assuming I'd just pick one up this January/February which is the time I buy most guns. Post holidays, nothing to do, give myself a present. There's nothing out there to buy anymore. My gun shop last night at almost 8 PM was packed to the gills, and had about 15% of its normal handgun inventory. Not a single semi-auto rifle under $1500 and maybe 2 CCW type guns.
That article is blood boiling, the way they openly admit they need to act fast before anyone with common sense can intervene. Article didn't mention, but do they feel the Assembly will have the votes today? Hopefully you have enough voices to overload them and make them put it on hold. Chicago, I'm sure, is licking their chops with anticipation.
Absolutely disgusting. Sad when a man can no longer feel pride in his own government or leaders. Sent from my ADR6350 using Tapatalk 2
Unfortunately I believe this will zip right through the Assembly which is a Dem majority. This state is sick and pathetic.
So it sounds like they will not grandfather magazines the hold more than 7 rounds, making the ownership of anything over that a crime. Saying you will have a year to sell them out of state. I feel sorry for all the law abiding gun owners in NY, and hope that the rest of the country uses their brains and doesn't follow these idiots in NY.
I guess for all the supposed chicken littles being bashed on here the past few weeks, I think for those in NY the first piece is actually coming down. Take this with the VP news to come out of the White House today or tomorrow, and what you are witnessing is the beginning of disarmament. I mean really, in an era where having to have a photo ID to vote is considered an infringement of your voting rights, its ok to trample on the 2nd amendment. Whats next, Freedom of Speech, Religion. Its never your problem till its your problem. Think its going to get better? Watch the shift to legalizing illegals in this county and the Dems will have an additional 11 million voters forever grateful.
Is this 7 round mags for pistols as wellor only assault weapons?.....my 9mm and my 45 are both 10 rounds.....they don't make 7 round mags Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2
I stayed up and watched the live stream last night. They published the bill at about 10:45pm and voted at about 11pm and it was specifically stated this was done to not give gun rights groups a chance to oppose it. One of the State Senators even said it won't lower child deaths but its a democrat bill so he supported it. Republicans also had majority yet it was voted 43-18. I'm pissed and disgusted to be a resident if this state right now. More thoughts later.
Let me get this straight... The solution is limiting magazine size to 7 rounds instead of 10? How long does it take to replace a magazine? 2-3 seconds? What is this supposed to accomplish? I am confused.
Been that way for a while, and unfortunately its most likely never gonna get better. They all suck, and Obama is the worst of them all.
Of course they will. They've already started. It looks like lines in front of Walmart on black friday. Drive by and all you see is baggy jeans hanging under plaid boxers that are under wife beater tank tops. And they're all anxious to turn in their illegal firearms and illegal accessories. :P
Sounds to me like anything that can hold more than 10 rounds are illegal and regardless of date of manufacture will be forfeited or sold out of state. Any magazine that can hold more than 7 but less than 11 will have to have a "plug" of some sort installed to limit its capacity to 7 or less. Havent seen the actual wordingof the bill, but doesnt say whether it is a permanent modification or temporary plug similar to IL and shotgun capacity for hunting. Next they'll require guns with quick release magazines, virtually every detachable magazine gun, to have some sort of keylock to prevent rapid swap out.
Details are here: http://open.nysenate.gov/legislation/bill/S2230-2013 From the way I interpret this, anything with the ability to hold more than 10 rounds will become illegal in one year. Anything owned prior to this bill that is more than 7 rounds will be grandfathered, but you can't have more than 7 rounds in that magazine legally. This means that moving forward all sales of handguns that are capable of holding more than 7 rounds will cease until the manufacturers can find a way to make NY compliant 7 round magazines. Also the background checks on ammo is scary too. Not sure how this applies to reloading as it's not really defined. It also says large ammo purchases will be flagged, not sure what a "large" purchase is or what happens with that "flagged" info. I'm also not sure what it says about private sales of ammo, can I legally purchase ammo without a background check from say my father in PA and then bring it into NY? How can they differentiate between legally purchased ammo and illegally purchased ammo? Where is the $$$ coming from to fund all of this?
And here is a list of the dirt bags that supported this..........many of which are republican. I hope our fellow NY'ers make their heads roll on voting day in 2014.
