I just wanted to point out, there is not a single shred of doubt in my mind that the spitfire double cross is the best broadhead I have ever used. Shot last night at 25 yards, made it about 30 before he piled up and died. I've never worked so hard for a buck in my life, between rehabbing from major knee surgery, moving out of state, picking up a new property, and introducing a friends son and my girlfriend to bowhunting, I am amazed I was able to seal the deal. I've hunted or sat in a tree almost every day this season, in a highly pressured, heavily gun hunted area. I've hung more sets and spent more time to figure out this property than any in the past and this is the first opportunity I had at a mature buck. I am incredibly pleased, and can't wait to keep grinding for a few more weeks until I can shoot another one with the bow during the NY gun season. Last night I was hunting in a finger of hemlock trees with thick bedding on the east and an open gas line about 40 yards wide on the west. I had let my bow down to the ground a little early, thinking I had no chance at seeing a good buck in 70 degree weatherafter having two fawns come directly under my stand and lick my stick ladder. After I put my pack on my back I looked up and two bucks were circling each other and bumping does 50 yards away in the gas line. I had no idea where they had come from! I pulled my grunt call out quickly and gave 5 calls, caught their attention, but neither buck took a step in my direction. I gave another 4 loud, higher pitched grunts, and this guy couldn't help but start coming my way. In all of 20 seconds I pulled my bow back up, knocked an arrow, pulled my release out of my pocket and put in the perfect kill shot. For anyone having a tough year, keep at it, its SWEET NOVEMBER and it can happen at any time!!
Great job! You've got some cajones for calling to those bucks while your bow was still on the ground. I may have done those two things in reverse order.
Situational, the one thing I've realized is you can only learn by doing. I knew that I immediately had to get that bucks attention with my grunt call, or pulling up my bow would've been pointless. Ill try to snap a pic of the setup, but the hemlocks I was in are so dense, he had no way of seeing me tow it up quick. I guess you don't hear many people that will grunt that many times that loud either. Lol If you guys saw the setup and where he came, you'd understand. I'll snap a pic next time I'm out.
Isn't it amazing how they just appear outta thin air? Literally damn near, they seem to show up when you least expect it.
