According some of the big names in hunting, "the hardest part about killing a 200" deer, is finding it"! If you haven't seen anything in 3 weeks, its time to change things up.
Best thing I ever ever ever did was secure a secondary property to hunt. No one likes pounding on doors but it's a nessessity. Just remember as your walking up to the door.... If your forced to eat $hit, it's best not to nibble. Once you have a secondary location you have to figure out the formula to not burning out spots/ being in the right spot at the right time. You could even go balls out and get a third location that you utilize just for does! Just a few things that work for me. Good luck
Saw 3 does this morning no buck following them, windy as heck now not sure about going out in this. Movement has not been good Sent from my iPad using Bowhunting.com Forums
I’ve been in the stand nonstop for the last 3 days. Extremely slow here as well. They have to be somewhere Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
In the stand all morning saw 2 small buck around 1030. Came home decided not to hunt the afternoon and do some yard work. Doe comes flying through the yard. Being chased by a spike , 6 point , and a small 8. As they run past me turn up the volume. 8 is grunting, spike blows twice then the 8 lets out a little growl. Almost sounds like a cat Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I fished this afternoon....the woods around the reservoir were alive with deer, total mayhem! No fish, not even a bite! Woulda hunted today but no point, can't draw the bow, bum shoulders acting up
Saw nothing in the woods this morning 2 tales in the field tonight on the way out Sent from my iPad using Bowhunting.com Forums
18 doe Tiny fork 110 8 point Lots moving but no big boys Had to go to my brothers property cuz mine is slow
Finally saw a big doe & doe fawn last eve. Nearly had a reasonable shot at the fawn, but to little. If the doe (& she was big) had given me the same shot, I would’ve wacked her at 30 yards.
what the heck is going on in NY state? in the last few days a lady got shot and killed and another hunter shot a truck thinking it was a deer. better go back to shotguns! yikes!
yes you are right. must be a high power rifle was too much for him to handle. I wish they would make them take a rifle hunting class just like the bowhunters have to have a special class. but they must think bows are more dangerous! lol
Surprised on the activity in southern ny this weekend. Thought the woods would be dead. I Had quite a few young bucks come in and freshen a scrape line I was sitting over .. My buddy sitting on the other side of the property had a doe come in yesterday morning with 3 bucks trailing along. He ended up taking a 100” 2 year old 8 point . Both morning sits were action packed for this late in the season. My early season was really slow. Seems to still be getting better by the week. Can’t get out again until sat morning. Be nice to see a Shooter. I’ve put my eyes on over 20 bucks in the last 3 weeks. Not one over 2 years old. Where do they possibly go when they turn 3 ?? Found one of my best bucks that disappeared shortly after archery season opened. Not sure where he went. Thought he got shot or hit by a car. Found 3 fresh scrapes following the direction he came from & exited. I would have thought the scraping phase would’ve been over this late in the season. Thoughts?
2nd rut started. That 20% of breeding does want the D Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I had a lot of action early on beginning of bow season Eastern NY (close to MA line). Lots of does.. passed on a couple of small bucks. Unfortunately hit a decent 8 and never found. Makes me sick. Hunting small private piece. Had my camera stolen the weekend before gun season started. Land owner saw several people sneaking through w/ rifles on his and the surrounding posted land. I have permission on 10 acres surrounded by another 100 or so that don't allow hunting.. but that runs into some state land. I wound up shooting a spike the first Sunday of gun w/ my bow.. Haven't seen a deer since.
Driving home from VT on Rt.22 in Washington County on Saturday I saw an absolute slammer hung from a pole in some guys front yard. Almost stopped and turned around to get a better look, but I had the family in the car. Huge deer and even though I didn't get a great look at the rack this deer had to be every bit of 150".
