Hey guys long time no see.

I and planning a trip to nw Nebraska around the town of Harrison this fall or maybe next. I'm going to target deer and elk. I heard that you can buy elk tags over the counter now is this true? What I'm asking for is any info that will help thanks guys. This is going to be my first big game hunting trip outside of Wisconsin

Unless it has changed Nebraska elk is closed to non-residents. There is a herd, but its real small and only 20-30 permits are given out per year. I've hunted turkeys between Chadron and Crawford before and there is no shortage of deer (whitetails and mule deer) and plenty of public land. That said, I know the area got hit with EHD so I would inquire about that with the biologists. CHeck out the Nebraska game and parks home page for more info.

I hunted mule deer around Hemingford which is south of Chadron. I have been thinking of going back there. Elk are only for residents.
