This was my first deer ever shot, 5pt buck back in late-season of 2010. The antlers on this deer are nubbed/rounded off, almost as if some one had took a grinder to them. Even the browtimes are like this, I was just wondering what may have caused this? Any input would be appreciated!
Could be a number of things. Injury or infection in velvet, genetics, broken tines... Any of these could be further effected if he was prone to making rubs.
I was thinking infection or lack of proper nutrition because the tips of the antlers rounded off and caved in towards the middle of the point like it didnt grow properly.
I was thinking infection of somekind during the growth period...body focused elsewhere to make it through possibly?
Here are some more pictures of the antlers, another theory I have of the cause is old age but I am not to sure of that.
