I really believe with how quickly the arrest and charges came down that the report leaked was a sting operation within the intelligence community to locate leakers. Unfortunately for Miss Winner, she is going to discover the Reality of her actions. https://www.washingtonpost.com/worl...0c031eab644_story.html?utm_term=.113ec078e9d2 I also wonder if there should be legal consequences for news organizations that knowingly publish leaked "Classified" information to the public.
Funny how quick they were to track this down so well yet no apparent truth on the russian hacking has surfaced.
Its a tricky fence to walk. There are situations where the media has a responsibility to report classified information, and other occasions that I think they have a responsibility not to. Hard part is knowing where to draw the line.
I thought the media was to report the news.....not arbitrarily report it.....the issue is more vetting the source of the news, which they don't do evenly....if it fits their agenda, they don't vet as thoroughly..... Sent from my XT1080 using Tapatalk
Yeah going to be in longer than danny manning her sentence will not be commuted till another lib gets elected.
I doubt she gets commuted at all, that's a hard sell. The issue is she will be praised by some, which is wrong.
Yup. And what really chaps me is Manning had shared classified documents on the order of 100k (700k, I think)...yet was pardoned/commuted. That really makes no sense to folks who have ever held a clearance in the military/Govt (or have even worked with any sensitive data)...
Whoever, owing allegiance to the United States, levies war against them or adheres to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort within the United States or elsewhere, is guilty of treason and shall suffer death, or shall be imprisoned not less than five years and fined under this title but not less than $10,000; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.
The double standard for how classified information is handled is pretty stark. If your name is Clinton, apparently you get a pass. If your a 22 year old sailor, you get prison time. This young man had 6 pictures on his phone, no evidence that he showed them to anyone and he's getting prison time, and ended his career. Well deserved sentence for the young man, just illustrates that not everyone gets held to the same standard and that's unfortunate. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news...otos-of-classified-areas-of-nuclear-submarine
And the medias role? I am seriously to the point where I can not watch the news without getting pissed.
What if the "leak" benefits the greater population as in Edward Snowdon? When should a leak be considered an act of treason versus an act of patriotism?
I would say that would be very extreme and very rare occasions. It may be beneficial for the public to be told general information but very seldom should that need to expose details of classified information. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I did not say he did, but many do. The larger questions as stated are A. when is a "Leak" a favourable action as opposed to tyranny and B. should someone accused of a leak not be innocent until proven guilty? Has society not got too far to judge before the law?
