They are giving the rest of gun owners a horrible image.

One reason why the NRA is calling them idiots.

    I agree with all this.

I hate seeing stuff like this. It had nothing to do with exercising any rights it more of a look at me thing just to piss people off.

Too much now days is too focused about doing it for hype/publicity and 15 min of fame, or for pushing technicalities or context of laws to try and prove smarter than the system. Most of our biggest headlines and stories shouldn't even be, they should have never happened. Personally, I think society would be a lot better if people did more because it's what they needed to than because it's not explicitly forbidden or they found some loophole. The more the limits are pushed the more they end up pushing back and hurting responsible people. I don't agree with all the gun restrictions or laws, but in my opinion, idiots like this prove they should be there. I think the more responsible gun owners/carriers should be completely against this kind of antics, it's the best way to ruin it for everyone

on one hand, OCT is educating both the public and LEOs that open carry is a codified right in the state of Texas.
They are well-intentioned and almost always notify the local law that they are going to do an "exercise" demonstration (they learned the hard way.)

On the other hand, they are a textbook example of "just because you can, doesn't necessarily mean you should."

I respect the rights of private businesses to deny service to those exercising their rights to carry...just as I support the rights of businesses to deny service to anyone for any reason. I probably won't patronize that business; but that's my business.

I think the idea of open carry itself is idiotic, why would one want to do so? At best it puts a giant target on yourself for the crazies out there to target you first. So while that super awesome .45 you have hanging at your side makes you look "badass" it also renders you useless in the case of an attack. Idiocy.

Those idiots that walk around with ARs slung over their shower just to draw attention really bother me. I'm very much pro gun and I don't see these guys as being anything but potentially harmful to my rights as a law-abiding, common-sense having gun owner. The NRA is right to distance themselves from that group.

Personally, I would rather all states allow open carry. I'd rather know who was carrying. The mere sight of a gun in public doesn't offend or scare me. I have the same reaction as I do when I see a uniformed officer carrying- there goes a person who does not want to be a victim.

In Virginia if you do not have or cannot obtain a concealed weapons permit, the only legal way to carry is open carry.

So you have to have a permit for concealed carry, but not open carry? Interesting.

I dont know why, but I just feel that open carry completely contradicts the point of carrying. However, I suppose if it is either open carry or do not carry at all I would open carry.

Yep, no permit for open carry.

I carry most all the time and I dont want anyone knowing I have a firearm.

Agreed. If I am not at home, odds are I am carrying. But most would never even know.

Michigan is same as Virginia. Open carry is allowed, but must have a permit to CC.
I think the idea of open carry is to deter an attack from happening rather than be able to react to one under way. If a guy walks into a movie theatre intending to shoot the place up and 1/5 of the guys and gals walking around have a 'badass .45' on their hip, he's probably turning around.

Open carry is fine and should be legal everywhere. However, these guys are idiots and haven't the first clue what open carry really means and don't care about others rights.

Good point, but when the same guy walks into a restaurant and notices one guy openly carrying odds are he will target him first.

I remember the first trip my wife took to the local grocery after moving her to my lil hometown...... Every other person she walked past had a gun on their hip. Said she had never felt safer in her life.

Guess it is just a way of life around here, everyone has a gun on em, in the truck a couple more........ Funny also is basically ZERO crime in my town aside from the occassional teenager doin somethin stupid.

Or leave to an easier target. But that has nothing to do with ones right to carry their firearm. A restaurant owner also has every right to deny access to those that are carrying.

I've never heard of that happening. Most thieves are also cowards, and target "gun free zones".
Odds are he'll find another place to stick up.

This did as much for gun rights as people parading around with their dead animals propped up on the tailgate would do for hunting rights.

It's idiots like this that will ultimately be the downfall of our deserving rights, not the anti's/liberals.
