Its time to fish for steelhead. I barely remember how to tie on a hook smaller than 5/0. These little 2/0 hooks seem so small.
I could not do that with these big, clumsey fingers. Great job and good luck. Looking forward to the fishing pictures !! Tim
No way I could have the patience to tie flies. Amazing how specific guys make them look when they are so tiny in the first place. Vito, honest take here, is the artistic look of these tiny buggers to please the fisherman or does it really help with the fish biting more? Work of art regardless! Good luck out there!
Good luck Vito. I was all anxious to try some fly tying this winter, but I have no motivation with no buck on the ground yet.
Thanks guys. Hoping to get out this weekend, even though the weather doesn't look good for it. I absolutely add parts or materials to flies to please myself. Some say the jungle cock (yes that is what is called, and yes I laugh every time) makes a difference. Gives the fish something to key in on. Fish will often attack bait head first. The jungle cock is suppose to imitate an eye, but to me, it has more of an artistic importance. I like to "dress up" steelhead flies more so than other flies.
Heard someone say the other day since the trend started with girls having feathers put in their hair, and it was the same stuff for tying flies feathers were going up??? You seen that.....I still have my whole kit from when I uses to tie in college, just haven't had time lately.
Yes, neck/euro hackles are extremely hard to combine thanks to this stupid fashion trend. A $75 saddle is going for around $1,000 on ebay. Girls and hair salons would call the shop all the time. They are selling them $10-$30 feather, and they bought up the world's largest supplier (Metz). Hopefully this fad ends soon.
I release them all. Not against catch and keep on some waters, but I don't want to drag them around all day. As you can imagine, my a.d.d. applies to fishing. I like to fish a lot of different spots. I love smoked fish though. I am lucky to know a few people that always have extra.
I grew up in the same valley as the Metz farms and my parents still live there. If you would like me to mail you one of those chickens, i could probably get my hands on one?!
