So after talking to several people today, I really thought the string stopper or rather the lack of, was what was making the twang sound on my new Black Ice. When I got home I found that the Tomkat does not even have a place for a string stopper. Is this because it is a double cam? Why does one bow need a string stopper and the other does not. There is not even a place for one to screw in on the Tomkat. The first pic is the Diamond the second is the Tomkat. Thanks!

The Tomcat is considered an entry level bow and does not have many of the higher end options of other bows in their lineup.

X2. If you want one, you could always get a front mount one though.

Then why is the Tomkat so quiet?

Do I need a string stopper on the Black Ice? If so, do I need one from Bowtech or can I buy the limbsaver I found at Sportsmans Warehouse? Thanks for all the help.

Just because a bow is entry level or does not have certain options does not mean it will be loud or not be a good shooter....

You can use any aftermarket string stopper that you want.

Did you go over every allen head on your bow and accessories to make sure they are all snug? This could cause the twang you are experiencing.

I would think that something is loose on that Black Ice. I've shot one every year that they've been made and have yet to have one sound loud.

This is more along the lines of what i was thinking. Something could be loose and that would cause the noise. Shot alot of arrows out of alot of bows before suppressors came on the market and never had a twang unless something was not right with the bow itself.

I tightened every thing down. I sure know where to start if I ever buy another used bow. This bow was looser than Madonna. I could only shoot it in the garage at about 7 yards. The twang is gone for sure. It still sounded louder than the Tomkat but that could be because it was indoors in a very small area. I'll shoot it again in the morning outside. Thnks for all the help!

Next I'll be posting what you guys think about string stoppers! LMAO! I hope I have time to take it to my pro shop very soon!!

Glad to hear you got the issue resolved. A couple loose screws can make a huge difference in the sound your bow makes when shot.

If you're looking for a good aftermarket string stopper check out the String Tamer GII from Norway Industries. It's a great product.

I called all over town and couldn't find a String Tamer. I was just about to give up but made one more phone call. Bass Pro had it in stock. I'm going by there tonight after work and hopefully I'll get to go to the range tomorrow. If not I can still shoot in the back yard. Thanks for the help.

I got mine from Bass Pro also, they talked me out of the String Tamer and I bought the LimbSaver. I like the LimbSaver because it has the concave end where the string hits it.
