Well a crazy story from today! It started last night right as I was going to bed, I heard a loud pop in the house but didn't think much about it. Well when I got home today I noticed my bow looked funny. As I walked up to it, I see that my brand new Barnsdale limb has delaminated! I just put them on Monday and have shoot 40-50 thru it already. Call up Dave and he said he might have a bad batch of glue, because several people this has happen too. So I was fed up with my Bowtech(Second set of limbs to blow up) and went to the bow shop tonight! Now I am the new owner of Mathews Halon 6! Now I only got less then 2 weeks to get this thing set up and sighted in before the opener!
He is shipping a new set of limbs today with the "new" glue, and I will set up the bow and use it as a back up. I still love shooting that bow and have yet to find one that shoots like it. I shot the Halon and a Elite Impulse 31 for a hour tonight. As much as I wanted the Elite to be the better shooter, The Mathews just shot better for me. So that's what I got. You use to be a Bowtech shooter didn't you? You still like the Halon?
I was with BowTech until I resigned from their staff in 2011. I have been shooting Mathews since. Except for last year I bought a BowTech Carbon Overdrive. Yes, I do like the Halon, I do however wish it was 1/2 to 3/4 pound lighter though.
Is everyone sleeping? lol Saturday, I was trimming lanes, checking a cam, and placing another when I heard a deer snort. I was thinking it might be the nice 8pt I have a pic of, so I canceled trimming the other stand site and left. I'm going to let those woods alone until the middle of Sept. I should have a few decent pics by then.
I got out and checked 1 cam. The 2 big boys have disappeared, but the nice 8 pt is still showing up pretty regular. He still put on a couple more inches since the last time I check the cam 2 weeks ago. Still have not step foot on the other property yet, I will be heading down this week to watch a bean field to see what comes out.
Nice deer. Probably a 3 yr old. Checked one camera this weekend and have a buck of similar size hanging around. I have another pic of a big bodied buck wayyy in the background and it looks like he's got quite a rack on him, but it might be my imagination. I have all of my early season stands hung, minus one that I might set up as a doe spot. Then I just have to get a stand put up on my turnip plot and things will be set. Hard to believe season is right around the corner.
I will be out checking cams hopefully this weekend. I wanted to leave them sit for a month which is hard to do lol. Hopefully I have some decent pictures to put up.
I'm so jealous. I can't access my big lease until September 1. Other than that it's all public land so I don't have any cameras out. Only downfall of that particular lease. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I'm going to try and pull a card this weekend too. Going to try and wait til Monday. A nice cold front is coming in Thursday and knocking back temps and humidity. This summer has been a bear. Damn humidity makes it feel like a pressure cooker.
Getting married (ceremony- been legally married for quite awhile) this coming weekend so most of my non-work time has been spent paying it forward so hunting season is not as uh, stressful as it otherwise might be. My main WI ladder stand was left up from last year so that's good to go; I'll bring my LW climber jic. Other than that, tomorrow I'm picking my Mathews from getting re strung. Fling a few arrows while I'm at it. After this weekend and honeymoon I'll get her zeroed in and be good to go for Sept 17! Hoping a cold front comes through that weekend.
Seventeen seems to be the number. Our team number, and that's when our season opens here in Pa as well. Can't wait!
Ok here are a some buck I have taken over the last few years. 2010 My first P & Y buck [IMG]http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c10/Holt/DSCF5009_zpslb6vl3gy.jpg Ending up taking 3 bucks in 2010, it was a great year! No bucks in 2011, but a couple close calls. had a couple big boys in bow range but just couldn't make it happen. 2012 Opening day buck shot right at dark in the shoulder, found him after he died 2 months later. I keep the shoulder blade to show how the bone started to heal over. This a screen shot of him about 1 hour before I shot him. 2012 Late September same stand as wide 6pt. 2012 Rut buck 2013 Opening day buck, still had some velvet on him. 2013 Rut 10pt 2014 and 2015 no bucks but did shoot a couple does. Last year I knicked a big 10pt during the rut at 20 yards! It still hurts!
