I have 2 cams that have soaked for 3 weeks now, I'm hoping to get something worthy of posting. Waiting that long does get me excited to check them this weekend! I'll put out my other 2 in a couple weeks.
FEB checkin in, we got us a team here fellas! I'm Fred and I hunt a couple of nice properties in Illinois and a small piece in Wisconsin. The Wis spot sucks, but I still try, mainly cuz the season starts mid Sept. Illinois starts Oct 1. I've taken a shooter buck every season for the last 10 years, sometimes 2. I have to drive 5-6 hours one way just to hunt, so I'm pretty much a weekend warrior. But I know the properties and I'm very lucky Looking forward to the season, let's Rock and Roll!
About 2 hours east for me, I'm real close to the corner where PA/DE/MD all meet. I go thru there when I head out to western Maryland to turkey hunt. It is some nice look country around there!
I've got a couple good bucks on camera, but I am fully anticipating them to disappear and be replaced by a whole different group of bucks... That's generally the case for my area most years anyway.
[/IMG][/IMG] Here is the beast that showed up in my yard last year and just hopping to see him come back this year. I ran a mineral site since winter and put in a small clover plot. But he has been a no show.
Some nice looking bucks! Same thing happens to me, they seem to disappear til the rut. Then they usually come back. I got a early season here and some times I can get them before they disappear!
Roger that! ..... I've actually spent a lot of time in Wausau. Growing up, we had a cottage on Lake Dubay. Still go fishing up there once in a blue moon, wish we still had it. My family now has 35 acres up in the Bloomer area. Beautiful area but the hunting is tough!
Real nice area. Fish the Dubay Dam for walleye in the spring, and try getting out for crappie in the winter if the ice is good on the west side. Bloomer area is good but spotty. Got a buddy that hunts up that way.
By me it's get them before October or maybe never. My problem is in previous seasons I've only been able to get up there mid-late October. November is reserved for MI. So this year I'm going up to WI earlier; I'm hoping all these daytime bucks I've had on camera in years past continue the trend. I've not been able to get up yet to put trail cams this season but there's always some bruisers cruising. I don't plan on shooting anything up there under 140. MI is a different story...First buck I get a chance on with 4+ on one side is getting stuck. Public land....So let's hope I tag out in WI before Oct 1 and anything after that is gravy.
