I hunted this morning and saw not 1 deer. But after my hunt I checked my camera and the big boy started showing back up! He is really close to last light, and I think its going to happen soon! I will be on stand tonight going after him!
Good luck gentlemen, looks to be a beautiful evening. Saw one younger baldy out on the field already.
Had a doe at 44 yards (ranged her) directly behind me for over half hour last night. Feeding without a care in the world. When she finally walked towards me it was straight on until she got about 30 yards then veered to the wrong side of the tree I was in. By the time I could get switched around and not be tangled in my safety strap she was passed me and now walking straight away so no shot angle. Cool encounter but frustrating. Quiet morning today; no activity yet.
I could have shot an 80-90 inch buck last night. He was within 10 yards for about 15 mins, taunting me with perfect broadside shot opportunities. I tried to talk myself into shooting him but I couldn't come up with a good argument. Even though I will have limited time in stand this year, I couldn't shoot something I wouldn't be happy with. I also had a button buck I've through at same distance. Deer gods were messing with me last night.
Tomorrow begins my week long hunt. I'm paying the price for these cooler temps with this non-stop wind (I HATE wind)! Either way, I'll be in there for all day sits. I'll update daily.
Wind can be tricky, but that's better than rain. Should be another nice evening here. Turned to overcast and there is a nice North wind here. Hoping the bucks that have been nonexistent decide to come take a peak at the half-cut corn. The last of the soybeans are coming off in the back half of the property, so maybe the stars will align. Good luck to those out and about!
Good luck early in. I'll be in my Michigan deer camp Thursday morning and in the stand every day thereafter through November 6th. Update as much as I can but there is little to no service in that area
That's a good stretch of hunting right there. My rutcation will be the 10th thru 20th. 8 days of bow, then go right into the gun season in Illinois. It has worked out pretty good for me over the years. I'm usually so exhausted by the gun season, that I hunt with the gun for 1 day. But I've taken some nice bucks on that day. The day before the gun season has also been magical for me. I think it's all the last minute chumps, hanging stands, etc...., and pushing the deer around. Good luck!!
Went out hunting yesterday morning at my home farm and then headed to my cabin for an afternoon hunt. I did not see any deer. Tons of scrapes around and the cameras even showed bucks during daylight. Some people around have been seeing deer and some haven't seems to hit or miss right now. I'll be back in a tree soon. Hopefully it's heated up for the weekend!
Yeah the guy who runs my buddy's Central Wisconsin QDMA was saying that everyone is reporting very little camera activity...we have multiple bucks almost every night tussling in the food plot. Plus some sporadic daytime activity. ZERO acorns may be the reason they're hitting the mid-woods plots so hard.
Yessir. I'm taking a break from the 7th-10th then hitting it again until gun opens the 15th. Assuming I don't tag out first (my tags are good for both.) IF I don't punch both tags w the bow I'll hunt opening day with the rifle. I'll be effing whupped by the 7th.
Had one doe at 25yrds this afternoon, and that was it for the day! I let her walk because of the low local numbers, figured she might help me out later on. haha
Letting the cams sit a while longer. I can't really see new sign because it's dark when I go in and dark when I come out. Prior to this week I'd seen a bunch of new scrapes, but no rubs though. Thought that was odd. Today I saw only one deer again! It was a basket rack 8pt at 5:05PM that came slinking in behind me at 10yrds before I heard him! Seemed to be browsing, as I watched him for about 5 mins, and got some video of him since I wasn't going to shoot him. We will see what tomorrow brings with this persistent wind finally leaving for a day! These colder temps should help as well.
