This weekend I was helping a boy try to get his first bird with a bow for the Wi youth hunt. Friday night we set up a blind and roosted birds on a property I have permission to hunt that is a hot spot early season. With my scouting of the course of the past week the birds are still in large groups so I decide to take all my decoy out to have the flock look. We slip in and hour before grey light Saturday morning get all set up. We no more than get across the field and birds are already gobbling on the roost. We all get set up I get the cameras ready to rock. Birds come off the roost landing about 100 yards from us and slowly work our way but only have hens and jakes come in and he was not wanting to take a jake which I give him kudos for! The morning goes on with no more action the big toms disappeared. So we decided to leave the decoys in the blind slide out go get some food. go check out a couple other spots. We made 2 more sits and the time rolled around to head back to the blind we started out with to try to intercept them going back to the roost. There where 2 strutters along with 3 hens out in the field so we followed a fence line and slipped in the back door to only find out that the blind and everything that was in it gone. So long story short 1 Primos Double Bull blind and 6 avian X decoys are now in someone else's possession. Lesson learned here is that i guess you cant leave anything unattended even on private property. But on the bright side the boy did end up killing his first strutter this morning with great video as a bonus!
I hate to hear stories like this. There are a lot of crappy people in the world and you just experienced at least one of them. Sorry to hear that. Congrats on getting the boy a bird. Bittersweet I'm sure.
Wisco...I've heard it said that "No good deed goes unpunished" -- not sure that is a valid statement, but you were certainly doing a good deed. Very sorry to hear to stuff was stolen...also heard that Karma comes around, maybe she'll pay a visit to those thieves. Congrats to the youngster on his bird. Bill
AWESOME for the kid and the fun you must have had watching him get his first Tom. Would love to see that video. Sucks to have bad people around like that. Hope that they get theirs.
Did you try asking the property owner if anyone else has permission or if they know they neighbors? That blows...
They said they have had problems with one of the neighbors in the past but nothing in a couple years. I'm the only one that turkey hunts the property.
I think a lot of us on this board have been in your shoes with a lot of stuff stolen so I have all kinds of empathy for your situation. I am glad to hear you sharing the experience of turkey hunting with a younger generation.
The phrase is attributed to Clair Boothe Luce. She was a writer and Congresswoman and an Ambassador to Brazil.
Nothing worse than a theif, well maybe a liar! Sorry to hear about your gear, really. Just remember, what comes around, goes around. That moron will get his or hers, garanteed!
If I ever catch someone stealing my stuff I'm gonna do some time. Only the circumstances will decide how much.
I got a call from the land owner saying that the neighbor might know where my stuff is located. So I stopped down there yesterday afternoon. Long story short 2 punks learned a life lesson and I got my stuff back!
