I can understand if ther is no other options as with the Osceola turkey. I want to hunt brown bears in Alaska, and you are required to have a guide, so I might make an exception.
I'd go on an outfitter hunt for sure... I've been on guided fishing trips before, what's the difference? I'm out on the high fence, but hanging out with your buddies at a lodge chasing big deer in a new place sounds like a good time to me.
It is, I have had some of the best times of my life. I went to Texas on a hog/exotic hunt and I think of it as one of the best times hunting I have had. I truly enjoyed it and not only because I hunted with guys I knew, but I met some real great guys too. Some of the outfitters are cool too, just do research and word of mouth to find the good places..
I have nothing against hunting with an outfitter... But there is a big difference between being a shooter and a hunter. I take pride in the chess match played with a big whitetail. Arriving at a camp and being escorted to a stand where you have never been before and shooting a buck is just that.. Just shooting a buck. Its not my definition of "hunting"
LOL Jeff, I posted that yesterday and I'm now trying to figure out exaclty what I meant by it too. I guess it was just a statement and I never really meant anything.
Right Duke, you know and understand everything. Bukmastr, myself and the others that like the analogy, we just don't understand. Yet somehow we seem to get the job done. I don't recall any of them grinding away at someone else for their opinion either. Maybe that's just you being the cheeky, fun ball buster you proclaim yourself to be.
You are an amazing creature Greg with an H. I tick you off when I quote someone else. Pot... Kettle... Black are we?
That didn't take long for the amazing, cheeky and fun person that you are to start with the cute...."Greg with an H" did it now, Doof! You can be read like a book. Actually, like the 1st grade **** & Jane book. Not too hard of a read. As you know, the written word can be powerful!! Ooooooh! Not ticked off, Doof, just trying to see how you're going to talk your way out of criticizing someones opinion because it doesn't agree with yours. You are an amazingly slippery creature yourself Doof!
I love this guy. I bet you talk about me with your co-workers.:d You know your name is GregH.. correct? So how is Greg with an H such a burn for ya? It's your name.. you know.. the one YOU picked. It really gets under your skin though...
Don't flatter yourself Doof. The only time I mention you is on the forums, when I'm completely bored out of my mind. I know my name is GregH and so do you. It doesn't seem to bother me as much as Doof bothers you, you know, the threatining Pm and all!
I'll be completely honest, be my selfish self and probably give a bad impression of me.........but I don't care. Its just the way I think and feel. I have no problems with outfitters as long as they own their own land and are honest with their customers. If they lease land that someone else would lease I am ok with that too. But I detest outfitters that come in and lease thousands of acres and in effect displace many local hunters. Most hunters cannot afford to compete with outfitters when it comes to leasing land. In short, when outfitters stay away from me we get along just fine! Back to the original topic of using an outfitter, its not for me as long as its not required such as in Canada. In that case if I wanted to hunt Canada of course I'd have to use one. High fence hunts are definitely not for me!!!
I don't see myself ever using an outfitter, at least not now anyway. The people that do use an outfitter, doesn't bother me a bit and I hope there successful In whatever there after. Outfitters can be a major pain In the ass, not all but some. I bear hunt In northern Minnesota on public land and it's over run by outfitters up there. They really think they own the fricking woods, ticks me off to no end!:mad1: They've tried pushing me around up there, I just push back that much harder! It's become a major problem where I bear hunt and something needs to be done. Anyone who lives In Minnesota can be a bear guide, 69.00 dollars for a guide license. Yep, we have a bunch of wanna be guides up there who don't have a clue what bear hunting Is so they then try leeching off of the guys like myself and others who've been there hunting for many years by scabbing off our baits 50 to 60 yards from our baits to try and pull our bear to them. It's perfectly legal so they can get away with it. Is It ethical and respectful? **** no!! I've talked with the Game Warden In the area up there and he agree's as well that something needs to be done with these so called "bear guides". I guarantee change Is In the works and I can't wait for It to come surface and when It does I bet 70% of these guides will no longer be doing It.
For some hunts I plan in the future, it is a near neccessity. Some Alaskan and Canadian hunts it is required by law. A mtn lion hunt would be pretty fruitless without a guide and pack of hounds. Sometimes it is near neccesary to gain good hunting access as well, if nothing else. Im like Schultz in some ways, in that I probably won't use one when it can be avoided. Just a personal opinion.
