Anyone keep a list of notes related to hunting? Observations, proven practices, to do lists for next year, thoughts, or anything like this? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I know Fitz at one point had a great excel sheet that he was using for all his scouting and glassing. I keep trying to keep notes but always get sidetracked and forget to keep updating it.
I think of the most random things at times and wish I would write them down, related to hunting obviously Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I tried pretty hard last year. Used the "notes" feature on my phone. Worked well for quite a while...until I broke that phone. My bad for. It keeping it backed up. My plan was to copy my phone notes into a journal for my future children to read. I'll try again this year. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I don't take notes so much as log information. Part of my post hunt ritual. It can be tedious as the season wears on, but now that I've committed several years to it, it is sure nice to look back on and pull stats from. I don't see giving it up any time soon. Between my log, my journal thread, and now filming, I can remember and relive every hunt of the season. I love that.
I agree, Fitz. I was tracking weather, date, stand, deer seen, and "thoughts." Something I could reflect back on from season to season for data to base decisions on. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Today I realized that we may not be getting big buck pics this year because there is a lot of standing corn and they might be bedding and feeding there exclusively Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I think I'm going to start one this year. Sounds like a good idea. Maybe even put trail cam pic info and stuff
I've been keeping a hunting journal for about 6 years. Great to look back at before the seasons. I jot down time on stand, wind speed and direction, baromic pressure, cloud cover, animal activitie. Stuff like that. Works great when u hunt an area for a few years. You can pick out what conditions and times deer move in an area. You know
I do it mostly for waterfowl hunting... both hunting and scouting... date, time, wind direction, temp, weather pattern, location, what the birds are doing... then when I hunt it's the same information but with spread location, direction, blind location direction, what the outcome was, things to change... Yeah it's tedius but worth it when you have a birds working and not sure exactly how to set up.
My dad was big into keeping notes. He would keep notes of the weather and how many deer he saw. He would take a picture with every deer he killed and record date and time, weather, location, hunting partners, weight and score, things like that. He stopped doing that when I start hunting, sadly. I is always fun to go back and look at it, he still remembers each and every one of the stories. I have recently started recording what I call hunting journals with my camera. It will be cool to come back and look at in many years and see the real emotion rather then has to explain it from memory.
I used to but not so much anymore. I have thought about doing it again though because it was fun and it helped me study the deer. I had a spreadsheet where I logged every deer sighting, what I saw, what their actions and temperament was, the time/date, temperature, wind, weather conditions, and moon phase/position. I'm sure if I go back I'd see correlations but it wouldn't have affected whether I hunted that day or not, I hunt any chance I get.
I have a day planner I keep each year that I put short notes about animals/ fish harvested, deer sightings, planting dates for my plots, dates I got specific bucks on camera. It helps to go back and review..you can find patterns and use it to your advantage
