If everything goes as planned I'll be shooting today after work since I don't have a 16 hour shift. Hopefully I can because I need to learn how my bow shoots after everything changed. Wish me luck.
Well no luck today. I was doing great all the way out to 50 yards. I had arrows on arrows. I had to swap some nocks since I hit them. At 50 I couldn't get it together and I can't figure out why.
Paper tuning is just 1 very small step in tuning a bow.. Just because you stood at one distance and got an arrow to shoot ok through a piece of paper DOES NOT mean the bow is fully tuned. As a good friend of mine and one of the best tuners I know says "Paper is for wiping your butt". Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The rest should be set to centershot !!!!!! Not to paper!!!! That being said, you can have both, centershot and a paper tuned bow for the most forgiving broadhead flight and best penetration. Set center via french tune or walk back or a combination of the 2. Then check paper, if you have yokes, it's quite simple to adjust the tear side of the yoke to eliminate the tear. But you check paper at multiple distances, not just one. I use 3' ,6', and 9'. This is quite simple and just takes a few minutes. If the arrows are properly spined, the broadheads and field points will be hitting very close to each other.
But to be honest, you should be able to shoot an put of tune bow accurately with field points (broadheads are a different story) sounds like you may have had a draw length issue you were trying to work through.
I have kind of given up on paper tune, I just French tune before season to check center. Then broadhead tune, which usually doesn't require much with shooting mechanicals for me. But if I had tuning questions Tfox would be the man to talk to, I have learned a lot from just reading his posts when he is trying to help other people.
The problem is that I've changed so many aspects of my bow and now I'm trying to get used to it all again. My rest is center shot, everything is properly tuned and ready to go. The only issues now are trying to retrain myself to shoot the bow how it is now (longer dl' more dw) and trying to teach myself a new method of releasing the arrow. I'm stacking arrows perfectly and busting nocks from 10-40 yards. And I'm almost positive that my problem at 50 was mostly because I started getting tired and sore from shooting so much up until that point. It'll all come back together soon enough and then I'll be back to where I was (comfortable taking a 90 yard shot at targets) with no more than a 1"-2" group
Might be a good idea to drop the draw weight for a bit until you can readjust. Generally, when someone readjusts draw length I am somewhat suspect too, especially when you seen a dramatic difference in consistency. Are you sure the DL isn't too long now?
This definitely sounds like a classic case of being overbowed. You should not have to get used to the new setup. It should fit like a glove and only take a few shots. It does take a while to get used to form changes and they need much time on the range to get used to and should be done with light poundage in the off season.
The dl feels great, its just a matter of getting used to shooting it with all the changes I made. I noticed that my groups 40 and below are better than they have ever been. I have never had to change out nocks/arrows because I kept hitting them. And I'm almost positive that my hiccups at 50 was because I shot so much before I got to it trying to get used to my new anchor point and form changes that I tired myself out. I was out at the range from 4:30-8:00 shooting nonstop. I'll be back out there today to pick up where I left off. I have a feeling ill do better at 50 today since I'm fresh and not tired from shooting and working 16 hour days.
