Try finding where they been hearding up at night. Should be easy...look for the trampled spots and where a good food source is near by. Try covering lots of land. I'll walk about 5 to 10 miles a day looking. Look along bases of hills where their trails are going up. Try fence lines too. Scan fields...I found a couple out in the bean fields this year....good luck man! I can't wait to get back out tomorrow
Thanks for the tips. When I'm out looking, I think I see bedding spots all over, but I'm not sure if I really am. I usually identify them by trees where the grass is matted down and plenty of scat nearby. Sound like a bed to you? Fence lines because they jump over them? What about where they cross creeks, I heard that was a good spot...
Probally is.... there will be a lot of sign. Lots of deer crap.grass all matted down. Everything will be chewed up...usally lots of downed trees. Look around hay bales out in pastures..find a hay bale that they have been eating on and look around. Last weekend I found 3 sheds in on spot next to a hay bale they demolished.
I criss cross through the woods back and forth, this helps because sometimes you walk by a shed and never see it, but if you come from a different angle you will then see it. I found 4 this past weekend by scanning fields with my four wheeler. you can cover a lot of land that way.
