Hey all, I just recently moved to NOVA, and was wondering if there were any hunters who can give me advice about the area. Any stories, pictures, or just general tips about the seasons/area would be great! Looking for some fellow hunters to connect with here. Much appreciated.
I hunt Quantico and CF Phelps. I just moved here as well. Deer are all over quantico however they are almost non existent until its dark at this current time. Yeah I've been skunked every day. CF Phelps looks promising and I haven't seen a deer there but Ive only deer hunted there on opening day. so can't give you too much info on that. Just google quantico Hunting and you will be able to get all the info you need for that.
If you find any good info let me know! I just recently moved out to NOVA from Louisiana and would love to get some good bowhunting in!
I am getting ready to move just outside of Dahlgren Va. I am originally from the Richmond area. Fort AP Hill is great for deer and turkey, Pax River is nice also. WMAs and some of the state parks tend to do lottery for hunting. There are several other places, just need to look at the federal and state property online. You also need to get to know some people in the area might have a place or two to hunt on private land.
Thompson wma is good during bow season on the bottom of the mountain. Once gun season opens up, the deer won't be seen and it's crowded. Check out the game and inland fisheries website for other wma's. If you have 5 deer killed with a bow in the past ten years, you can apply to NOVA suburban whitetail management. I believe it's $35 per year, and you get access to private land in NOVA. It's mostly residential property, but with the over population of deer, you are encouraged to shoot all you can. Not many trophies, but I hunt for the dinner table.
