Hello everyone. I have been looking at this forum for a while and decided to join. Have had a fair bow season so far with 2 does down not a whole lot of decent buck sightings till November when the corn was cut. I saw this deer twice both times out of range-so when firearms rolled around i was excited. After 8 hunts in the stand i was getting a little down as to the deer seemed to be on lockdown. Well Thanksgiving morning rolled around-had plans to meet my brother at the property he text me @ 4:30 to telll me that he was slepping in and good luck. Well i knew where i was going to sit-his one person deer blind on a thick pine tree area/bedding area that we have shot 2 nice bucks the last 4 years. The wind was a perfect SW direction so 20 minutes before shooting light i opened the windows and waited for the hunt to begin. Well it did not take long when out of the pines i see a yearling doe she moves out about 20 yds and then i see the right side of this bucks rack. Trying to calm myself down a bit and wait for a clean shot which seemed like forever.Well i ended up with a shot and cocked the muzzleloader took a deep breath and fired-smokes pours in the blind and the deer runs off. i think did i just miss this deer? Well not knowing /wanting to push a deer i wait till 10 to climb down. I go to the spot and no blood my heart sinks. I head the direction he ran and round the corner and there he lay. When i walked up to him i was shocked at how big he really was, body size/rack.After putting my tag on him i called my brother to tell him i shot a doe and needed a little help getting it out. Well i let him walk up on the so called doe and he about had a heart attack!!!!! Sleeping in sucks doesn't it? After a few high fives and pictures we muscled it to the truck.I guess you just never know when it will happen-season can change in a mater of seconds. Also would like to know what you think this deer will score? Hoping with deductions it will make the Indiana record book minumum of 140. I know this is a bow forum but i wanted to share this deer with you-we all like big deer pics...... Have a safe season I hope the pics i attached are done right? ..
Congrats on a super buck! Where you at in NOrthern IN? I live in Osceola but hunt mainly all over in Elkhart County.
Guys sorry i screwed the picture attachments up. new operatiing system here at work. still learning....
Thats an awesome buck man! Great job on getting out of bed and getting it done, no better feeling! Also, no worries on that stud making 140. He will go higher for sure. Like Ty said, where are you in Indiana? I'm in Lake county and hunt Newton and Starke also.
Ah good ground around there! Congrats again! If you ever have, hope never, trouble tracking or need some more eyes on a blood trail feel free to call me, if not on stand I'll come as quick as I can to help someone out.
Congrats on a nice buck! I am headed up tomorrow after work for the muzzleload hunt. This is my first hunt with a muzzleloader and I am pretty excited about it.
Private. My brother owns 48 acres in Black River Falls WI. We built a really nice cabin up there so I am very spoiled. I bow hunt there too and until this year gun hunted there. I gave up gun hunting to give muzzleloading a shot. I did hunt public near there for about 10 years until he bought his land.
