Northern Illinois Deer Activity

Went to the stand at 3 pm. Saw a 120" at 3:30 looking for does. Seen 3 does.

 

Today I saw 8 does, one spike and a small 4 pointer. The lil 4 pointer was grunting and chasing the does around. It was funny to watch. I have never seen a buck chase does before.

 

My friend went out this morning. He had three does come by with a buck close on their tails. He was grunting like crazy and chasing the does all over. The buck was a very weird looking buck. It looked more like a reindeer, kinda. He harvested this deer to get its genetics out of the heard. I would put pictures on but I didn't take any.

 

Hunted the afternoon. All I saw was a coyote chasing a pheasant at 90 yards. No chasing where I'm at but there is still some corn in.

 

Sat last night saw 1-4pt. and a yote. Back at agian tonight. Good Luck all!

 

Went this am. 2 does at night. This moon and clear skies has got to go. I think they are calling for rain this weekend. Some overcast would be great.

 

Saw the lil 4 pointer again and he was going for 3 does again.

 

I know its not Northern IL, But I hunt in Northern Indiana, and Hunted today, and as Doublelung said its a few Days away, Sure if you want a 1.5 old Buck they are up and Chasing, But the Doe's are not ready, although you might get one that is in and then look Out, Thats why we Hunt, It can change at any Moment.

 

mid-michigan's heating up too- my cousin's been seeing small bachelor groups of young bucks all season, but after the storm moved thru last week he said the groups have broke up and the young bucks are starting to cruise for hot does. Last Sunday he saw one wall hanger circle around his stand in the thicket too far away to take a shot, deer was testing the air the whole time, and had a small 2yo 4-6 point follow his Tinks 69 drag line up the trail.
Weather's not looking great next couple of weeks in the Great Lakes area, highs mostly in the mid-50s. That may drag the rut in slow, but at least the moon's right.
Ha! just got the text from my cousin- buck down! no further info yet.

 

Finally today was the best day out so far Big bucks were on there feet all day and chasing does. I seen 3 shooters that were over 150 and smaller bucks all over the place. I thought I was going to get a shot at the biggest shooter
but he took a different trail and walked out of sight. I will wait for him tommorow morning and if I don't see him in the morning I'll move my climber down 50 yds where he ended up going tonight. It's on

 

Went out yesterday all day and saw 3 does. Today I went out after the first quarter of the bears game. Saw one little 6 pointer and 21 does. What is going on here in IL?

 

Just got back, sat in my ground blind and saw 4 does being chased by a spike then another 5 does. so 9 deer on a creek/field edge over a 1hr and 1/2 sit. I shot at a doe and missed.... just under, really could gage the distance of her it was so close to dark I figured 35 and went right over here. she was prob at 25

 

What is the status of the rut.
