I know with various types of locust trees the deer will go crazy over the pods in the winter months. Has anyone ever paid attention to northern catalpas? They have a rather large pod/seed that also falls. It seems more woody on the outside though. It's a very hearty and easy to grow tree where I am located and maybe the deer like them? They are also a fishermans tree featuring the catalpa worm. Anyone have knowledge or experience with these trees?
No answer about how deer react to them, but I had a Catalpa tree in my back yard once. Hated that damn tree with a passion. Those pods were everywhere and the tree grew faster than any other tree I've seen. I also constantly had little sprouts coming up between mowing.
All I know them for is fish bait in late summer. Honey locusts on the other hand is a deer magnet in bow season.
