Aloha, I am new to bowhunting, and have jumped in with both feet! I have been training with targets and physical training regimens to prepare for the upcoming hunting season. I wanted to ask members of the forum, if they could recommend places or areas to hunt for beginners in Northern California. I am located off of highway 50 north and east of Sacramento. Travel isn't a huge issue, but I would like to be closer to home this season, at least in the beginning. Mahalos, Chef Ryan Ellison
I know there is a few Californians on here but not many. Feel free to ask any questions you come across. Everyone on here loves to give opinions. Welcome
I spiked out in Northern California near the Salmon River years back. Lived in the woods walked many miles a day thru the woods for 14 shifts. Granted most of the ground was black but even during helo rides never saw a deer.
Ryan, you are in the middle of the migration path, zones D3-D5 which are still OTC. Scout around any of the lakes. You’d like to think deer are well away from people, but I’ve seen legal shooters walk right through our developed public camp at night during season. Hope you found some action this year, would love to hear about it.
Can't help with your question but I was in CA several years ago- Knight's Ferry>Modesto>Stockton>San Francisco. Beautiful country. Would like to see more of CA farther north, even to Oregon. I did find a deer carcass by the KF bridge. Was told it was probably a mountain lion kill. That didn't go over with the wife. Anyway, good luck on your search for a place to hunt and good luck for a deer this season!
