Just thought I’d share this. Haven’t seen it mentioned here yet so sorry if it already has been. i heard about this on the working class bowhunter podcast. It’s a bit of an entry fee but it all goes to a good cause and you get a ton of gear that amounts to more than the entry fee anyway. First prize gets 50k and there are tons of other prizes and drawings as well. Thinking of signing up. The way they have it split into the zones makes it pretty fair. https://nawtc.com/
That looks pretty neat. I wonder how many entries they'll get at a $300 fee? I'd think that would be fairly limiting. I don't see a lot of "average hunters" raking up a spare $300 for a contest like that but I may be wrong. I'm considering it.
I saw this a while back. I guess if you've got a large well managed lease it would make sense. Not so much for the guy hunting small tracts or public land
Lol, reading through the rules...if you submit a winning entry, you have to take a lie detector test and pass it before they'll accept the winning entry. I know there's probably going to be a lot of poachers going for this thing, I can see the concern but it's also required for it to be filmed on the tactacam they send you...is the lie detector test really necessary, seems a bit absurd. How the hell would you "fake" the tactacam footage, measurement, etc...???? The final hunt in 2019 on the KS ranch is with muzzle loader, the winners are responsible for getting their own permits and tags and it's through the normal state drawing system. Jeeze....why don't they put a disclaimer on this thing that requires a fully documented trip around the solar system to be eligible for the final hunt. For a measly $50K I don't think I'd bother with the hoops they have laid out to jump through. I think I'll go buy a freaking Powerball ticket and let this thing go. Taxes will eat up the winnings anyway.
Haha what the heck? So it's an archery only contest with a muzzleloader final? Who the hell came up with these rules? Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk
I think it does say you can opt to use archery equipment for the final hunt if you do not draw a muzzle loader permit. I guess they do give an "option" but I mean really....you're going to compete with everyone else who are using firearms while you use archery only? Lol, what kind of badass would you be if you actually won?! LOL, that'd be pretty awesome. But yeah...I thought the same thing. Only thing I can think of is the hunts are fully guided and professionally recorded so maybe they just figured the better range of a muzzle loader gave the hunters a better chance.
Lmao right if I win with a bow when everyone else was out there with gun powder I think I'd have to demand double the prize money. Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk
Hahahaha! Lie detector test? I didn’t read that far. Wtf. I mean I know 50k is a good chunk of change so I see their concern but man
After full review of this contest I’m calling bullshit. They probably already have the winner all picked out
I sure would have developed it differently if I were running the contest. I think since the hunts have to be recorded on their tactacam, the lie detector test is stupid and just amounts to a redundant hoop to jump through. They aren't even court admissible and have been proven to be beatable. I have no reason to fear taking one if I were to enter the contest and submit an entry but it's sure idiotic. I'm not sure $50K is worth that much effort. If I were going to make rules like that, given how wealthy the hunting industry is, I'm pretty sure I'd have at least thrown in a new pickup, tractor, no-till drill and top of the line UTV in the first place jackpot. Now that's a grand prize I'd have worked hard for and thrown $300 at and accepted a lie detector test. To be fair I guess the hunt itself on a ranch like that is probably worth a ***** of change. I'd have at least figured a way of providing everything needed for the hunt including tags. Those out of state tags are not only hard to draw but expensive. It sure makes a person wonder doesn't it. It says in the rules that members and family members of the organization are not eligible but it says nothing about close friends. There's always ways around that stuff anyway. I dunno if I'd accuse it of being rigged but they sure go out of their way to complicate it.
Yea I was more than a few beers in last night when I wrote that . I seriously doubt it would be rigged. The lie detector test must just be a way to assure the skeptics.
Interesting concept, I wont be entering though, seems like the odds of making it to Kansas are pretty good for the guys that have tons of money to spend on land and foodplots to grow big deer no matter which state your in. Ill be following the progress and am curious to see how it turns out. How many of our BHOD pro staff guys can we get to the the final hunt!?
Nothing like a $50k cash prize to ruin an ethical and wholesome family sport. I'm not a competitive person, so I feel sorry for someone who passes on a great buck because they know it won't win the stupid competition that they paid (wasted) $300 to enter. If they get an average of 18 people from each of the 14 regions, then the entry fees will cover the prizes ($50k first, $20k second, $5k third). If it were a completely random lottery, your odds of winning would be 0.3% with that many entrees. Say you're very likely to get a big buck and win your region...you still have to win the muzzleloader round, where you have no control over your stand, weather, wind, buck quality, etc. So it basically is a lottery...The odds of a regional winner winning the championship is still only 5%. I will admit that the experience of the championship in Kansas would be worth the $300.
I see this as nothing but bad press if the antihunters hear about it. Kind of hard to get nonhunters to believe that hunting more about food, provision and pursing a pastime or family tradition .This just makes hunting look like another **** measuring contest.
