I am new to bowhunting and am looking for my first modern compound. I have an old shoulder injury and tried a crossbow during the 13-14 season only to find I dont enjoy it much and at 175lb draw it is worse than a compound by a long shot. I picked up a Vintage Oneida Aeroforce very well maintained and finely tuned and was instantly addicted. As I have been searching I was talking to a guy who was trying to sell me his 65-75lb bow and he was saying something to the effect of "When you adjust the draw length to 28" the weight will be close to a 50# draw." That sounds like total BS and I think he just wanted a sale. Is there any correlation between the weight and draw length like that at all? Also I am looking hard at a Bowtech Diamond Infinite Edge as it would give me the ability to start low at about 50# and work up as high as I'd like. Is this a good bow for a beginner or is it just a gimmick?

Welcome to the site. I think the guy you talked to was trying to sell you his bow. You can adjust the draw length and set the poundage independent of each other. I don't know anything about the bow he was trying to sell you but generally a 65-75 lb bow cannot safely be set down to 50 lbs, and certainly not by just changing the draw length. I have first hand experience with the Bowtech Diamond Infinite Edge and all three youth I have put in the bow love it. I know several adults who shot and bought the bow for a back up bow because it was such a good deal. It can be set from 5 lbs to 70 lbs and draw length can be set from 13 to 30 inches. A great bow to learn and grow with and for someone who can't draw a lot of weight. There are other bows that are set up this way as well. Good luck with your decision.
