Hey Guys/Gals, I am new to this site as well as bowhunting. My wife and I are getting into bowhunting and would appreciate any tips you may have. I have hunted rifle before, but not since I was 15 (27 now). I am completely new to bowhunting and havent even bought my gear yet, I am doing research and making sure my first buy is a good one. I love being outdoors and hunting and have always wanted to go bowhunting. I know I will enjoy it very much, and I know it is very different from rifle hunting. I look forward to hearing from all of you! Happy Hunting and be SAFE.
Welcome Zombie. Buy quality equipment that fits you and PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!! Your getting a late start this year, so make sure your confident you can hit where you need to before taking to the woods with your new archery equipment.
Welcome! Archery/bow hunting is the best. This season marks my 22nd year. OMG, I am that old??????? Shoot straight my friends. Sal
Welcome. Just wanted to add, there are great "how to" videos in the vid section. All the best this season.
Identify some good proshops around you and start hanging out there and shooting every different bow you can get your hand on. Listen and learn from someone that knows how to shoot. Remember; "Practice doesn't make perfect, perfect practice makes perfect." Learn how to do it right from the ground up. It'll save you a lot of headache later on.
Thanks for the advice! We arent really planning to go hunting this year, we really want to be proficient with our gear before we go out. I was raised that way, don't take the shot if your not gonna kill the animal. We have an outdoor archery range in Sacramento that we will visit alot, once we get our equipment. We don't have many archery shops close by, there is one within 40min that we are going to tomorrow, the other is sportsmans warehouse in rocklin thats about an hour, and 2 hours or so depending on traffic to the cabela's in reno, NV. I will shoot every bow they have, I am sure of it, I am guessing my arm will be sore the next day, lol. Thanks again everyone for the welcomes and advice, it's nice to have a place were like minded people can share info!
Thanks Iowa Bowhunter for the tip on the vids. I know where I am heading now! Another relative noob to bowhunting. Did a bit in Montana when I lived there, but just getting started again after about 15 years away from bowhunting.
