How did she track down this comprehensive family tree ?

I have a pretty wild group that came before me on both sides. Some of them, most people wouldnt be proud to be in the same blood line, but I AM !! :)...

I'd like to see how accurate what I "think" is...Let me know how she tracked this all down.

    Cool read, too..Thanks.

Draw, she started on genealogy.com. After she gathered a general family tree she branched out to fill in the blanks. I believe she contacted some of the states in which most of our ancestors lived. Those states were Virginia, Tennesse, North Carolina, Kentucky, and Indiana. I will send her an e-mail and see what she says Draw. I will then PM you with the info.

She used a family tree computer program and she created our own unique file.

I really wish I could get more of my mother's side, but she is the only one left in her family still alive.

Sean, that is awesome. I am going to take a good look at it tonight. I am going to see if any of our relatives may have been in England at the same time. Cool.

this world is/was full of constant change and people have been and will continue to be displaced/conquered. It is a natural part of the world.

    Nice read. For myself:

Maternal: Grandfather born in Norway, immigrated to the US in early 1900's with his parents. Grandmother Swedish/Finnish (although the joke is that they don't talk about the Finnish part) and was born first generation here in the US (MN or WI).

Paternal: Don't know much as the family has been torn apart many different times. From what I've learned: Grandmother: English and a bit of Scottish Grandfather: Prussian. My father was an only child (sibling died at birth) growing up. His father was killed in Europe during WW2 and she never remarried. Aside from my Grandmother's brother, I've never met anyone else on my paternal side.

Was at Ellis Island and could not find any reference of my family coming through there. My mother's maiden name was changed when her father's family moved here. I know what it is, but no record of it. My father's side, as I understand it, some fled from Prussia just before WW1. However, I recall my paternal Grandmother saying that her family has been here in the US since before the Revolutionary War. I've also found references to my last name of soldiers who fought in the Cival War for PA.

My last name is rather uncommon. Exact spellings of it put the majority of it in the Illinois/Missouri border (Hannibal area to be precise). Although, I have found references of it in Texas and as far away as Perth, Australia. Which leads to an even more interesting part: A number of years back, I received a call from someone claiming to live in Perth, AU. He was calling to find out some information on family history. From what he was saying, he remembers as a boy his grandfather, or father, were throwing letters from the mail into the fire. His (grand)father was adamant about being born in Australia. But, this gent finally managed to get a look at the return address on the letters before they got burned and they were from here in the US.

Seems my family is riddled with strife. My sister and I don't talk much at all and don't get along due to her actions. My dad was very quiet and reserved. My paternal grandmother was rather eccentric but kept very much to herself and never talked about my great grandparents or any other relatives from my grandfather's family. On my maternal side, we're kind of the black sheep if you will. We're rarely ever invited to any family events. Very weird...

I know I have Scottish and German ancestry, but have honestly never looked into it beyond that to know anything farther....It's so disconnected and in the past I don't really see how it's relevant to me now, other than being personally curious which sadly I'm not.

My Mother is half Swedish and half German. Her parents on both sides were first generation born into poor farming families near Carlinville, IL.

My Father is half Irish and half German. His Mother was a first generation, her father was 6'11" and she taped in at 6'0". Somehow the Irish in us shrunk my dad down to 6'2" since his father was a 5'8" drunk Irishman who's grandfather came here in the 1800's.

Guess that makes me 50% Kraut, 25% Potato Herder and 25% seafaring pillager.

The ancestors of many people of European ancestry were brought here to work in the factories and mines. Most, if not all people of Japanese ancestry are descended from those brought here as agricultural workers. They weren't brought as slaves. Just like the Europeans, their passage was paid and they were guided into jobs after they arrived. It worked out well for both the Europeans and the Orientals, since their prospects in the homeland were not very good or they would not have been so anxious to leave for a place unknown.

I sometimes have difficulty getting people to understand that, while I am of Japanese descent, I an not an Asian-American or a Japanese-American. I am a native born American who happens to be of Japanese descent.

COOl stuff guys. I love hearing about everyone's background. They are so unique and interesting to me.

IV--I had some direct line grandfather's fight in the Revolutionary War. The Whelchels out of South Carolina. They fought in the battle of Cowpens. Someone from my family had fought in every war the US had been in up until the Gulf War. My dad was still in the Marine Corps at the time but did not head into combat when he was 45 or so. He stayed back at Quantico and helped out with the reservists.
