I tried looking on the Mass.gov website and couldn't find the exact answers I was looking for. I would appreciate it if someone familiar with the area could give me a little insight. My wife and I have some friends who live on Martha's Vineyard and i was invited up next year for hunting season. My question is if Mass allows non resident hunting on the island, and if there are public lands that have access for hunting. My buddy is just starting to get into hunting and he was not sure of all the rules and regulations that would allow me to hunt there. Any info, or a direct link would be appreciated. -Andrew
Mass. Maps of Wildlife Management Areas in the SE District of Mass: Southeast District Wildlife Management Area Maps A quick Google search gave me the information above as well as information regarding Martha's Vinyard Land Bank which offers hunting to over 1,500 acres of land. A few links below for you to check out. I assume you must have a regular Mass. hunting license before you can apply to hunt the Martha's Vinyard Land Banks but below is the application. That helps lol. Thanks bud. I don't know why I couldn't find what I was looking for, but I do appreciate the assistance. -Andrew
Well the first half wasn't too hard (no big deal) but the second part was a bit tricky and I had to dig a little. I was curious myself so I wanted to help figure it out. It looks like you have to fill out the application for the Land Bank hunting land after you get a non-resident hunting license for the state. Not sure how that works exactly but it's a starting point, it might be worth just giving them a call. Hopefully it helps and good luck!
I got excited when he told me that the ratio of deer on the island is 5 deer to each resident. I guess that's why you are allowed to purchase so many tags. Thanks again for your help. Maybe the info can help out a few of us. -Andrew
My mother was born on Marthas Vineyard. I can see it being very hard to gain access there to hunt land. Island is full of moon bats.
