Can anyone tell me how this works? The last two years we have bought our combo archery tags over the counter but this year we entered the lottery. Not sure how it works. We did it as a group. Does this way guarantee we get our tags? Can anyone help?
    Thanks!!

I live in Illinois and did not know there was a drawing for non-residents. Seems like our lottery for guns which is not guaranteed.

Here is a link for ya: Deer : Non-Resident Archery Deer Hunting

    Which county you hunting?

The last couple of years I've bought my non. res tag OTC and I will do the same this year. They had around 10,000 left over non res archery tags the last couple of years so I'm not worried. I did enter the lottery the year prior to buying the OTC tags and drew. I don't know the regs. so can't help you there. But I do believe when you apply for a non res. gun tag you have to choose by county. When you applied for the lottery, were there any questions asking county preferences?

No, I chose archery only for the lottery. We haven't had any issue the last two years OTC either..

Ok so you can buy OTC tags anytime before the bow opener? Why is there a lottery if they had leftover tags...

Yes and anytime after the season starts. Depending on what county your trying to hunt in they may run out of either sex tags. So the earlier you buy the better chance you have of getting some.

I don't think it's so much of a lottery like other states have. It's just more of a guarantee to get the tags you want. Most people I know just wait and buy OTC.

    Five day hunting license $35.75
    Hunting license $57.75
    antler less only $25.50
    Either sex $411.00

Those prices are from last year's hunting regulation book. If your hoping they went down don't, if anything they went up.

Its $421 for just the combo tags (antler less and either sex tags) and fees, add on another $70 roughly for license and habitat stamp.. Puts you right near $500 for a non resident to bow hunt.. Well worth it fore coming from Maine!!

The lottery didn't ask me what county I was hunting in, I applied for archery only non resident combo tags. We normally buy OTC without any issue the last two years.

A farmer ask a friend of mine to come up and shoot some deer because of crop damage, but I don't know if worth the ferry ride and 500.00 for tags when I have so much ground on this side of the river and for free. May have to pass this season.
