I still have 34 more days until the turkey season I drew begins here in MI. I know there are some fellow fisherman on this site, so I thought I would share what keeps me busy during the "off season".
Very nice, gotta love steelheads. I gotta get back up to Erie this fall and get into some steelheads, a buddy of mine landed a 36"r a few years ago, what a brute especially for the first fish he caught on a flyrod.
Awesome Photos Matt. Great fish, Love that big Hook Jaw. Where you put in for your Turkey Tag? I'll give you a call soon.
Awesome pics! Water looks a bit chilly:D Makes me anxious for the 18th...if all goes well, I should get some stream time in this year trying out the flyrod for the first time.
Thanks everyone! I have hunt 234 unit ZZ, which is private land only in the southern half of the LP. It runs the May 4th-31st. Just a heads up, I'll be up your way April 30th- May 1st. Good luck! I hear the steelhead are plentiful in the Erie tribs.
Yeah, I'll be working feverishly at the new house, though. I'm not even sure I'll make it out for the 18th, but I'm going to try. We're trying to get as much done as quickly as possible. Heck, I live a mere 5 miles from a nice 2+ mile stretch of DH water on Lycoming, but I haven't hit that yet, either. I sort of slacked of my fishing over the past few years, but flyfishing has stirred something up in me again to get back out.
Nice catch there. what are your seasons for fishing. I take it w/the walleye that you can fish in the river yr. round.
Walleye season is currently closed, but they run the same rivers to spawn as the steelhead and accidental catches happen. They all must be released. Steelhead season is open year around on most rivers and creeks. Some of the smaller tribs are closed until the last Saturday in April, but most waters that get a steelhead run are open year around.
Nice fish Vito. That walleye looks like a brute. I have a 5 hour drive to the Erie tribs. Not gonna make out there at all this year. I see a well tied copper john in one photo. Do you tie?
