    It's getting real now.

I washed and dried my early season gear last night and I just finished spraying everything I'll wear (except underwear) with permethrin.

The jeans and ther red t-shirt are for toting my stands in on Friday.

    Permethrin works good for me.

I won't go into those fields and woods during the early season without it.

A long time ago I found the 36.8% permethrin concentrate on Amazon. A quart costs about $40 but it only takes about one ounce to make a gallon of spray.

We use it with byphenthrin to keep the hive beetles away from our bees.

    I've never heard of byphenthrin.

Looks like I'll be able to get in the woods Sept 9, 10, 11, and 12 for some evening sits!

Well that's considerably better than what I'll be sitting through next week.

It's a milky thick liquid. We mix it with permethrin to take care of all kinds of bugs.

I've been texting the farmer on whose land I will be hunting this weekend and next week.

They have corn planted right up to the big creek I have to walk along to get to the patch of woods that is my primary spot.

I told him that I'd bring my hand deer cart because it didn't look like there was room for a four wheeler to squeeze through without taking out a row of corn. (I didn't tell him that I was really dreading walking in and out through dew soaked shoulder height grass, but I was.)

He just texted me and said to bring my four wheeler because they took their combine over there and shelled out a path for me to get deer out.

Now if I kill one (or more) I can back the truck right up to the woods.

They really want the deer killed there. This is the same farmer that told me once "If you kill one you don't want or like just kick it in the creek and kill another one. I just want them dead".

Of course I can't do that but it was funny.

Sounds like there is a "small" deer problem over there?

You have no idea. In some of my spots I've seen 30 to 50 out in a big field at once. Not in the spot I'll be hunting this time though. Plus, that only happens later in the season in the picked corn fields. Even though there is a huge deer population it still isn't easy to get into bow range with the crops still in the field.

This spot I'm going to this weekend is a prime little patch of woods between the corn field and a bedding area. I always see early season bucks there. Does too, of course, but not as many.

I guess you can say the farmers have the deer problem. To me it's a deer "opportunity".

Oh, and at the risk of sounding greedy, my goal this year is to put 10 - 15 deer in the freezer between the different states I'll be hunting.

I'll shoot for 15 but I'll be happy with 10 like I took in the 2017-2018 season.
